So no games were televised at that point in time?
Posted on 10/31/19 at 9:39 pm to oOoLsUtIgErSoOo
Certainly no LSU games were televised at the time. In the 60’s they would get a televised game from time to time, but not more than once or twice a year, if that. I remember watching the Notre Dame game televised from Tiger Stadium in ‘68 (I think, but didn’t look up the date). It was a huge deal even in the 70s to have a televised game. LSU played Alabama in the early 70s on Thanksgiving afternoon in a nationally televised game.

Great thread, I love reading everyone’s stories

My dad was attending LSU at the time and was at the game on date with my mom. He has passed away, but my mom always brings it up right around Halloween every year. She said it was one of the greatest things she has ever experienced.

My dad was at game and woke me up when he got home late. Couldn’t stop talking about it—“wish you had been there son-you’ll be at the next Ole Miss vs LSU home game in 1961. Still have the ticket stub, $2.50

I was there in the student section. We all thought that Jake Gibbs, the qb and punter, had a clean shot at Billy but couldn't bring him down.
The goal line stand where Max Fugler and company stopped Charlie Flowers was just as dramatic.

Me too. Hopefully we get a few from people that were actually in attendance. At least ones that weren't coke boys.

Probably getting too late now to get anything tonight. I was just thinking that anyone in attendance, with a good memory of it, would have to be at least 70. I doubt there are very many 70+ folks that are regular TD posters.

Where do you rank this in terms of LSU moments you have witnessed throughout your life?

The Notre Dame game was in 1971. The Thanksgiving game against Alabama was in 1973, but it was a night game that LSU probably should have won.

It was my first LSU game. Found out Dad was going, threw a 10 yr old tantrum, he made close to 200 phone calls & finally found 2 more for Mom and I. We were sitting on row one, South end zone square between the goal posts.Remember the Rebs punting on 1st down the whole 4th quarter, both defenses were incredible & Deitzel and Vaught were playing field position. Cannon ran away from us & from our seats we could see it all play out almost in slow motion. Then, LSU held the Rebs 4 times from inside the 5 yd line, right in front of us.Cannon, Rabb & Robinson combined to tackle the QB on the goal line to win the game. No goal line stand, Cannon's punt return would have meant zip.

You carried those metal coke racks too? I had the S.E. corner where the visitors were seated then. I did my TS service 64-65 seasons.

Thanks, couldn’t remember the year of the ND game. Watched it. Was at the Bama Thanksgiving game as a student, sophomore year. But I remember that anytime there was a TV game, it was a major event since the opportunities to be on TV during that era were pretty limited. I had forgotten it was a night game since I was in the stadium earlier in the day putting out brochures on seats before the game.

The main reason I remember the Notre Dame game was because I was on a recruiting visit to LSU. Brad Davis was a freshman, and he was my host. Crazy, crazy night at the game, at fraternities after the game, and at Broussard Hall until the wee hours of the morning.

Bill, How long have you been back in Monroe from Jackson?
Posted on 10/31/19 at 10:45 pm to oOoLsUtIgErSoOo
I was alive, but unfortunately I must have been out trick or treating that night. Glad to get that off my chest. Now I’ve admitted it, I feel better.
70 and still up, who would have guessed it?

On of ESPNs football documentaries they're doing right now was about television/ college football.
NCAA had a rule that no team could have more than one TV game a year. They basically said no games were televised until mid-60s

I was almost one year old and we lived in the old married student housing across across Nicholson from tiger stadium. My father was there but my mom had to stay home bc of me. She still holds a grudge.

I was there. Was a student at Northwestern State College in Natchitoches at that time but was a big LSU fan. Saw all LSU home games in 1958 and 1959. Also froze my butt off at the Sugar Bowl game when LSU beat Clemson 7-0. This was one of the most boring games I have ever watched.
