Anyone else notice the new fullcourt inbounds play

Can't say they aren't trying something new.

All five players out of bounds spread out across the baseline, then inbounder passes to another player who inbounds it right back to original inbounder.

That part has been done forever, but the other three players all running straight downcourt away from the ball was unusual.

Seriously, they still don't always have someone in the middle of the court to break the press. Cost them 2 turnovers today but didn't really matter this time.

On the last inbounds it looked like 2 of them quickly jumped across the line as if they couldn’t be there after the ref blew his whistle

Gonzaga ran this set earlier in the year. Had this been implemented before the Texas Tech game you could add another W to the win column. The inbounds plays under our own basket have also been much more creative. We’ve gotten two easy buckets in the last two games from them. I don’t recall getting even a shot attempt off from an out of bounds play under the goal in the previous 17 games.

So credit to Wade and staff for addressing the issue.

The inbounding strategy itself is okay, but the execution is sometimes lacking.

Like the lazy pass Watford threw ahead of Thomas (toward the defender who was playing off of him) that the relative quickness of Thomas was able to grab just before the defense got there.

Just throw it TO Thomas in that situation. If the defender is alongside him then, yeah, throw it ahead.

I loved it. Never really seen that before, but we're trying new things!

I'm surprised Gonzaga ran it as I don't see the advantage. Really you lose the first second or two on the inbounds as someone needs to establish themselves inbound before receiving the ball. Likewise, everyone inbounds is running away from the passer making any pass more difficult.

Maybe a well practiced, crisp passing team can take advantage and work some trickery, but LSU, especially Watford, are not that.

Watford's passes are soft and he doesn't make quick decisions so you really should get him over to mid court to get the long passes. He just gums up the works under the basket when they try to beat the press.

Running the inbound through Watford is a disaster. Will is a smart guy. I’m not sure how he doesn’t see it.

Coach Wade says he got the in-bounds play from Baylor. He said he regrets not using it for the Texas Tech game. He felt it may have made a difference.

Mickey Mouse. How is your 6’9” big with good hands not the guy flashing middle? Yet he is the one that inbounds usually and is not good at it. We had a 17 point lead that Tennessee rapidly cut with about eight straight points in one minute because we could not handle the press… Terrible

Mickey Mouse.

Once we started doing it we stopped turning it over.

The 6'9'' guy with good hands was the one turning it over once it was passed to him.

You don’t bring extra men into the backcourt against a run and jump press!! Why doesn’t he understand that he’s just making it more difficult? You beat that press by getting it into the middle then skipping it diagonally.

6-0 run in under 22 seconds to start that stretch.

You rarely see a 5 second call on an inbounds in college basketball. And it doesn't take 1 or 2 seconds for the other players to put both feet across the line. Maybe MAYBE a half a second.

It's funny how we broke the press, and didn't have any turn over issues after the adjustment. But hey, I understand some of you need to bitch about something. It's either, Wade can't make in game adjustments. Or when he does, you are on here bitching about the effectiveness of them, even though it was incredibly effective.

Are you saying Wade brought extra men into the backcourt by the design of the inbound? Or that he removed them by releasing the 2-3 guys he did every trip?

He always brings too many men to the ball on the press break inbound. If you’re gonna have more than 3 guys you’ve at least got to set some screens and we don’t do that. What you get is extra defenders and less space. Don’t get me wrong I’m a Wade guy no question but this is basic HS level stuff.

Hey dummy. Tennessee was overpressing at the end of the game, and LSU still turned over the ball. I hope LSU has a solid plan to beat a full court press, but they haven't shown it yet.

Will Wade said they saw Baylor run the inbounds play on tape when they were scouting Texas Tech. He said he wishes it had been installed before Texas Tech because maybe they'd won that game.

Didn’t see all of them, but it looked like they were creating space through screens on those plays.
