Anyone been down to Gainseville for a game?
I live in Jacksonville, FL and got tickets to the LSU UF game. What can I expect?
I've been several times, but only a couple when we were good enough to be competitive (or thought we were). This would not be a good year to go because we're going to get blown out and their fans are probably still being delusional about last year's debacle.

I went twice both LSU losses. Never going back.
2008 was the worst experience.
Tebow was a God, Harvin was the fastest person on the field, and the Florida D was as nasty as ever. Poor freshman QB Jarrett Lee was being thrown into the wolves against a future full of NFLers, a couple Pro Bowl caliber. I think most of us knew what was coming that night. But, LSU fans set the stage for the hazing that was upcoming. That's because we may have lost on the field but we won the party. We killed them at the party. Destroyed the tailgate scene.
We just came off a national championship, and our fan base was pretty cocky. We also brought more fans than ever to Gainesville that year. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was around 15,000? Lots of folks came without tickets just to party since we were on top of the college football world.
We were 4-0. We just beat the Faux ranked #10 Auburn Tigers on the road. shite, we were the only school with a pair of BSC balls
Despite knowing the likely result of the game (a Florida W), our fan base brought the heat. I feel bad for any Florida fan who mistakenly wore Jorts on that day.
After our beatdown which included a couple of pick 6s and Brandon Spikes punting the ball in the Upperdeck, the Florida fans turned on us. So many "frick yous" and just nasty stuff walking back to the hotel.
We couldn't get to our "safe spot" in time. Anyway, we probably deserved every bit of it but frick it, I'm not going back.

I went once (about 7 years ago) and we had a great time other than we lost the game. Cool bars to pre-game and basically right next to the stadium. Fans were fine. I agree with this though:
"If you're drinking, the campus PD will seek you out and mess with you (and be oblivious to the home fans that are doing literally the exact same thing) and end up making you pour your drink out."

It is the worst place I have been for a road game. The people there are pretty nasty in general. Like many other SEC schools, but no redeeming charm.
I will never go back, and wouldn't say that about any other school at all.

Was there that year and had the exact same experience. It was really strange how hostile they were from kids to senior citizens after a beat down.

What la_birdman said.
Never again. It's terrible.

Terrible traffic. No hotels. But that's most SEC towns.

Yep - heard real A--holes @ Gainesville. And after last year, who knows what the attitude will be like next week??

frick off for insinuating that I was "a tool" or a dick to the cop, because I wasn't.
I obviously wasn't there so I'm only reading what you said you said, but replying to a cop with "umm...yes??" sounds very sarcastic to me.
I assume the cop felt the same, that's why he cuffed you.
In a situation like that where the cop is dealing with a lot of young people drinking, I'd suggest that being overly respectful is the way to go. Even if the cop is being an arse, you're not going to win that battle. Diffuse the situation by being polite and respectful, and you'll be ok.

Did anyone physically assault you or cause you harm in anyway?
Posted on 9/29/17 at 3:11 pm to Geaux23
Not me personally.
My point was that if simply standing on campus wearing the opponent’s gear is grounds for being hassled to no end, it’s simply not worth my time or money. When I saw other LSU fans being treated even worse because they had beers or the tailgates were in “the wrong place, etc” I thought that was a bit much, after all it’s supposed to be an enjoyable occasion for everyone, no? It was one time for me but from reading other posters who shared almost the exact same experience, I don’t think my one time visit was an anomaly.
I drove up to Gainesville when I lived in Orlando because I figured “why not?”
Now I know.

I've been going to the LSU-UF game in Gainesville for 15 years in full purple and gold, and I've never been hassled. Sorry, but that's just the truth.
Again, if you act normal while you're there, they'll treat you fine.
Of course you might get a few comments from drunk Gator fans, but to me that doesn't qualify as being hassled. That shite goes on everywhere. Just ignore it and be polite.

That’s great. This was 16 years ago and I was acting normal.
The needling from home fans is expected, I have no problem with that.
The main issue with my experience was the almost never ending harassment from the campus PD.
Can’t stand there, can’t walk there, can’t park there, no tailgating there, and so forth. I, along with everyone around me, tried to fix whatever the issue was, only to have the same issue resurface almost immediately. Almost like if you’re sitting in a chair and someone walks up to you and says,”that’s my chair.” and you move to a different chair. Same person again walks to you and says,”that’s my chair,” same sort of issue. No matter where we moved to, it was never good enough.

Sounds like y'all are both probably correct. Like atltiger, I've been there a ton (every LSU-UF game last 27 years) and never had an issue. But I have no reason at all to doubt you either. Sounds like you had the bad luck of encountering an even more overzealous than normal prick cop (or cops). I knew a guy from Jax who was a UF cop in his early 20's. Total douchebag. Just something about the place. And perhaps atltiger and I have been lucky.

Sounds like everyone's complaint is that you can't tailgate like you can at LSU, which sucks. Going to a bar near campus probably fixes a lot of that though.
I've never been to UF, but my plan would be to hit up the bars near campus as early as possible. A couple of hours before heading to the stadium I'd stop and get a 6 pack of beer or so and a cup to pour it into. I'd go check out the "scenery" around the stadium before heading to my seat. If they make you pour out your beer at that point, you're only down a few bucks.

Glad to see other Tigers in Middleburg (I live off 218)
I've been to a couple UF-LSU games and it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. I just bar hopped a few places and got heckled a little bit. I even go to non LSU games with my Honey Badger jersey and get hounded by both teams.
My wife is not a gator fan so it was easy to convert over, and her family are Noles fans thank god. Gators fans are some of the worst though but bearable.

Went in 2012. Tailgated with some Gators on campus. Did not have a bad time. Would go again

The crowd is very intimidating in the Swamp! Very tuff place for visitors to win. And this crowd doesn't like LSU at all! It will be LOUD!
