The issue is regarding the use of the recruiting services, which I believe most schools do in fact use. I think the NCAA is likely investigating whether payments received are for legit services rendered such as:

providing video and summary breakdowns of every athlete/prospect in the areas that the recruit service operate. Such as a compilation of data of every single high school football player in Houston, TX, with video, stats, etc. Through which each schools scouting departments evaluate to look for lesser known prospects, at which time the school will send their scouts to evaluate the players in question. Providing unbias information/data on prospects to schools.

and not improper services such as:

advising prospects as to which school they should attend (steering)

Now for the grayist of gray areas....if the prospect contacts the recruiting service to ask about information about specific schools in order to determine which ones he wants to visit. Such questions could deal with facilities, quality of depth, academic issues, and cultural/demographic info for each school. Do the recruiting services answer the prospects questions to ease the recruiting process for them and if so is there a way to make sure the information is unbiased?

I also believe recruiting services do accept payment from prospects/families to promote their son/daughter to various schools in an attempt to find a scholarship opportunity. This process being important for lesser known/quality prospects.

Looks like we'll be having some company pretty soon. Kinda brings into question about the legitimacy of your recruiting practices over the years, doesn't it?

My father-in-law said the same thing to me last night. You two just might be related.

Wouldn't that make us kinfolk, though?

Am I wrong that we were doing exactly what Oregon did, we just paid a lot less? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure most top programs have "recruiting services" they use, but it kinda blows to have our name out there like that. I don't care as long as it doesn't affect us in any penalty way.

FYI, I know the owner of (like family) and have worked at Collegiate Sports Data. It is 100% legit and has been around for over a decade. It is how 95% of all colleges among all divisions get their info on recruits.

I cant speak for the others, but Collegiate Sports Data is harmless and a legitimate business that owns the market share in recruiting data. Every school on your schedule uses them.

Not really concerned with it.

Every school does it. They just needed a news story to run.

Thanks, most of us know that, but some are just looking to stir the chit. All you have to do is look at LSU's history in football recruiting, nothing bad there for a reason. haters are gonna hate.

Because we actually have documentation on the service we used. It's called institutional control and proper bookkeeping.

I've seen Oregon fans say the same thing. How many states don't have free information laws? Why aren't we seeing receipts from the other top programs? All who use the some of the same services.

Randle told FOXSports.com in January that he and his father met Lyles in January 2010 at the U.S. Army All-American Combine in San Antonio.

Randle committed to LSU a month later at a Tigers junior-recruit day. Randall decided to attend LSU’s event one day before deciding not to go to an Oklahoma junior day.

Randle said he consulted with his parents before choosing LSU and that his father is “pretty tight” with Lyles. Randle said he later spent time with Lyles at LSU summer camps.

“Now, that’s a funny guy right there,” Randle said of Lyles. “That guy right there, he can eat. He knows about every restaurant in Baton Rouge, and he introduced me to all of them. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t know anything about the food places down there.”

Randle said Lyles was particularly close with Haley, who recruited him to LSU. Efforts to reach Haley have been unsuccessful.

PLUS

quote:

If Lyles assisted in or was involved in the recruitment of any player to LSU, the NCAA would consider him a booster and any payment to him would be considered a violation of Bylaw 13. The rule prohibits boosters from directing a recruit to a school.

You have to ask those states and schools. I don't really care about anyone else. You will NEVER see me on another schools site.

LSU isn't getting in trouble, randle who was recruited by LSU, hasn't even played. Alot of schools used this recruiting service, I think they'll just be more strict on outside recruiting services and come up with some new bylaws or something when it's all said and done.

You have to love the $C people coming on here. They had agents lined up at practices, on the sidelines during games and in the locker room following. With all that, they still said that nothing wrong was happening. Now that they are on probation they jump at the least little thing that is mentioned and come to this board to raz. Even if this is pans out to be bad for LSU, it still pales in comparison to the corruption that takes place at $C.

What does this have anything to do with what I said?

Because of the comments I read? Not that it matters but it was comments from a newspaper article online when this all started coming out. Not a fan site.

There should be some folks out there that may have an idea. Very curious as to why only a couple of schools are being talked about? Why them? Or for you....Why us? We can't be the only onea who have this stuff on the books. Obviously if you're clean you will have that on the books. You wouldn't want to hide those "legit" payments otherwise that would raise questions...imo.

Again, ask the guy who wrote the article. Did you want him to mention every school who paid that service? He picked LSU because we are LSU, 2 NC since 2003. NOTHING will come of this. Worry if you want, I won't.
