Call me a pragmatist, but early in the season, when reputations are made, and future opponents are building their resumes, I pull for the team whose impending thrashing by LSU will most benefit the tigers' case for aspot in the championship.
Now, at the point where we have been eliminated, all bets are off. Recruiting and bragging rights help me get downright petty.
I actually went to the bama vs Utah sugar bowl last year with a bama fan - - on a hunch. Awesome, just . . . awesome.
Besides, I was at the game in Blacksburg and lived in VA for several Vick-induced-douchebag-bandwagon-Hokiefans years. I've NEVER had more fun in TS than that turkey splat that opened the championship season.
Had a UVA friend come down to share my joy. TS was like nothing he had ever seen. Plenty of Hokie fans acknowledged the same.

More like FEAR what he can turn Bama into.
Like at LSU, he won the west in only his second year.
I'll be pulling for Bama against Virginia Tech.

The only time I root for the Gumps is in bowl games and even then I find it hard to do.
Beamer Ball prevails! Geaux Hokies!

That pretty much sums it up for me. Now, I realize that most LSU fans cannot PULL for Bama...but we all should realize that it's in LSU's best interest if Bama wins the game.
Now, will we be smiling on the inside a little bit if you Hokies skulldrag 'em up and down the field? Perhaps.
Either way...it's kind of a win/win for us.
To the question on if I think that VT can beat Bama...absolutely. It's based on the assumption that VT's defense will be stout as usual (which I'm really not sure of, b/c I haven't kept up with what's going on over there), but you will be going against a QB who's never started a college game. Bama's D will be great, but TT and the O may have enough to get the job done.
