I was really hoping you guys would beat AK and possibly find a way to join us in the Orange Bowl. We definitely owe you for the 2007 loss in Baton Rouge.
I know there are at least a few Tigers pulling for VT down in LA!
i think we may very well pull this off! Good luck against the Tarholes. Eventhough they are fellow brethern in the ACC, they tend to be a real snooty bunch!
Well that's one thing we CAN agree on. I didn't vote for him either. Gov McD probably cares more about how Regent's does in the Bible Bowl, than whether or not VT goes to SEC!
Wrong Buddy. UVA has no interest in the SEC and VT has no loyalty to UVA. Nobody in the General Assembly has, or would prevent such a move. Our new Governor is a relative fool and not 1/10th as savvy as Mark Warner who pulled off the VT to ACC. There may be many roadblocks to VT in the SEC, but being "tied to the hip of UVA" is certainly not one of them.
Actually the Washington DC metro area is huge and although the main college there is Georgetown, Virginia Tech dominates the area. UVA is a joke, Maryland is split between DC and Baltimore. A recent Washington Post study found that there are more VT alumni in the DC metro area than any other school, by far. Virginia Tech also dominates the Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach metro area of almost another 3 million people. Virginia Tech owns the State of Virginia - 7 million plus, and is the dominant College Team in the DC market. If, and I say IF, the SEC is wanting to expand, taking VT is a no-brainer for them. I and may VT alum would love to join the SEC.

Anybody see us whip UT?

That was a nice victory after having lost to LSU and AL in recent years. I was pulling for LSU over STate Penn and am a big fan since I was treated so well at Tiger STadium before the VT beat down in 07. Hope you guys re-claim the SEC West next year!
Here's an answer from an outsider who has seen several games at the Superdome, including the 2000 National Championship between VT and FSU, VT v. TX in 95 Sugar, VT v. AUB in 2003 Sugar, and the VT LSU game in Tiger Stadium 2007. Tiger Stadium is by far much louder and more intense than the Superdome. Not even close.
I know it will be a tall task to take out the Crimson Tide in our first game, but it's a possibility.

BTW - keep whippin' up on UVA (baseball) if you play again!

re: VT-Bama to Open 2009 Season

So why won't Bama play VT. Their schedule has (I think) games with Tulane at the start of the season. I suspect that Saban has realized that the folks in AL expect 10 wins each year and with all SEC games being a challenge, adding VT would not be like playing a cakewalk school. Anybody know what other SEC teams are being considered? We, VT, would love Tennessee.
So if Alabama doesn't sign, then who is the most likely SEC school? Who is LSU scheduled to play in the early part of 2009? I've been told by AUburn friends that no way AU adds VT with their schedule, maybe UG. I will tell you that if VT fans were polled, they would want to play Tennessee. We have tried to schedule them for 10 years and they just won't do it. Blacksburg is only about 3 hours from Knoxville and there are many Tennessee fans here in this part of Virginia and us Hokies have to listen to their crap all the time.
"DUDE" as you say, I was referring to our loss to Kansas in the Orange Bowl. Yes LSU beat the snot out of us in BR last year and we pretty well handled LSU in Blacksburg a few years ago. Those are the only two times we have ever played. So the series is 1-1. I say we continue it.
Wrong Traitor from Norfolk. VT is the dominant team in the Commonwealth and quite frankly we ARE God's gift to ACC football. We have won the ACC football title 2 of the 4 years we have been members and have the best overall record of wins in the 4 years we have been members. So, although I would ordinarily never, ever say it, the fact IS that we are God's gift to ACC football.
Sorry Buddy, you're wrong. Our QB in 1998 was Al Clark and Michael Vick was still in HS. We beat you guys in Nashville at the first ever Music City Bowl. I was there and met a bunch of great Alabama fans. IN fact, after the game a bunch of Bama guys kept yelling over to us "what the hell's a hokie?" We sent them a round of Wild Turkey shots. They got their answer and we pushed the tables together!

You Bama and LSU fans may find this odd, but there is no way in Hell that VT fans or the Administration at VT would fire Beamer and hire Saban, even if he offered to coach for free. Beamer is a God around here (whether deservedly or not) and he ain't going anywhere. NOW WVU may be another story. Since Rich Rod left for Michicken, they moved up a relatively no name assistant. As far as Clemson, Bama may very well beat them. Clemson is always overrated, especially this class. VT has consistently beaten them for 10 years now without a loss, at VT and at Death Valley.
Yes the Kansas game you idiots. In fact the last time we played Alabama, we beat them. We need to renew the LSU VT game.

VT gets another crack at SEC in 09

Just announced in Blacksburg that VT will open the 09 college football season with a "made for TV" neutral site game against Alabama in the Georgia Dome. The real question is not whether or not VT will choke again, but whether Saban will still be with the Crimson Tide! Go Tigers and Go Hokies!
See this article about losing majory donors:

Unfortunately, WVU's loss may translate to VT's loss if our famed Defensive Coordinator Bud Foster goes to Morgantown as their new HC, as many in our area are starting to hear. :banghead:

See link slamming Petrino. The right side graphic showing all his coaching moves really tells the story:
