Just curious if there is any LSU folk out here in Alaska. I just got stationed here in Fairbanks last month, and would love to have some tiger fans to hang with on Saturdays. I figure it’s a long shot, but why not .

Land of the midnight sun. Stayed there before going to Denali one summer. Sun never set the whole night. That must be a bitch come winter.

In Anchorage, there are quite a few Louisiana folk working for the oil companies and oil service companies but not sure about Fairbanks.

That's only during the summer. During the winter, the sun never comes up.

There is a poster named RogerTheShrubber who lives in Alaska and he posts a lot. Not sure what town he lives in.

As a geography buff I really dig Fairbanks. Never been there. but the idea of such an inland locale that is home to a flagship school (UAF) has been an intellectual curiosity of mine from afar for so long. Hope to visit someday

I'm not aware of anyone on this site in Fairbanks. Three people I know off the bat are Roger who lives in SE AK, TimeOutdoors lives in western SC AK and I'm in western AK.

I was stationed at Elmendorf AFB in anchorage for 3 years back in the day. We had some LSU fans. This was back in the 90's when Curely ran the program into the ground. Never been so glad to be away from LSU football
.
Fairbanks Yikes! Hope you find some LSU fans because that place is brutal especially in Winter.

Fairbanks never gets 24 hours of darkness. It does get 24 hours of twilight in summer though.
Summer hours are harder to adjust to than winter IMO. Sun does set, but you get twilight throughout the night for a month or so.
There used to be an SECR poster from Fairbanks. Not sure if he still posts.

There will be workers from Lafayette area in Fairbanks there. Probably 20 of them working for bristow and the alyeska pipeline. Can’t remember where they drank as it was a long time ago but if I do I’ll post it for you.

As
They have a -40 club. The idea is to take outrageous pics in front of the UAF temp sign.

?? That is insane to me. We were in -10 in February and I can’t fathom 30 degrees colder than that with nothing on up top.

I’m guessing that it does not take long to pose for that picture!

You’re dadgummed right, Sneakerhead42 !! It took you asking your question to get me off my keister and sign up for this great TD site that I have followed for decades. Am I a Tiger fan ? I buy season football tix and attend most of the home games — and it takes an usher or Trooper telling me its time to leave Tiger Stadium after the game is over. Its hard for me to fathom “fans” saying an SEC game is too far to travel and I despise the exodus I see from those “fans” that leave by the end of the 3d quarter. Came up here in the US Army back in 1986. Returned on my own after completing my 20+ years of service in 1992. So, friend, welcome to the real Alaska. Hope your tour up here is wonderful and that we can meet and talk LSU together some day.
And don’t believe the hype about it being dark for a long time in Dec or Jan. Usually by then there’s a great deal of snow and with any moonlight you can see for miles. However, do not make the mistake in June of telling your young kids to be home “before dark”
