We will continue finishing dead last in the conference if we are trying to run a squeaky-clean program.

He signed a top 20 class this past offseason

And most of these players are in it for the money and what you can do for them. Most your top players want to jump to the pros anyways. These “pending” and possibly no sanctions are not holding CMM back from doing his job right now

Yeah, this looming sanctions stuff that folks keep bringing up...man this ain't like 1997 when Brady took over - with NIL and the transfer portal this is a whole different animal.

I would not be surprised if we were telling recruits last year that we were told there would be no severe sanctions because we gave them what they wanted WW - and that's why we got a top-20 Class.

Now if that top-20 class was poorly evaluated or poorly developed or both that's up for debate.

Exactly. Possible sanctions never stopped The General. I am so sick of that excuse. Everybody knows WW was the sacrificial lamb and LSU is basically going to be untouched.

Remind how each coach’s first season went?

Include preseason expectations please.

There's always morons out ther ebut anyone who follows baseball knows what was coming this year with Jay at the helm and his recruiting.

McMahon is totally different. Dude needs to do a complete 180 over the next several months to have a prayer of not sucking again next season. Has to absolutely destroy the portal. Thats where he put himself losing his only good player off this team and a recruiting class which isnt going to make any real impact day 1 here.

What are you talking about inherited a 30-4 team?

If you’re talking about McMahon’s Murray St team from last year, they inherited 3 players from that team. This LSU team would’ve gone 30-4 (it was 31-3) in the OVC. Comparing a 31-3 OVC team to a 13-17 SEC team is pretty dumb.

Remind me how that has anything to do with people saying the exact same thing, even after the season.

But to show my work:

I understand things are horrifically bad in basketball right now and it sure looks like MM is in over his head. but the expectation for basketball was middle of the pack in the SEC, they ended up last. I am not happy with McMahon right now but I don't think we know anything for certain yet, though we do have an idea that we may need to pull the trigger quickly if next season is anything close to this bad.

LSU was top ten in every preseason ranking for Baseball, as high as 3 in some, and expected to challenge for the top spot in the SEC. They ended 20 or lower in the overall rankings and 3rd in the west. They had the 7th best overall record in the SEC. 1-2 in the SEC tournament, didn't host a regional, and lost back-to-back games to Southern Miss to end the season. And had record-setting error production.

I would have taken something similar to 2022 baseball in basketball this season all day long.

I felt the same. I had some concerns regarding errors, those have been assuaged now.

Without knowing what is going on behind the scenes, I don't know that completely different is right but he has to make some sort of corrections or course changes.

This is where I am uncertain. I have seen some potential in some of our freshmen that I like. Honestly, my concern with McMahon right now will sound weird. What I see looks like a guy who is trying to "build a program" which was a good model at one time but I think Wade said it best when he said that with NIL and the portal it is now about building a team every year rather than building a program.

I think we will have a good idea but by the start of SEC play next year whether we will be looking for a new coach for the 2024-2025 season.

But we'd have at least made the NIT if something did't collapse internally. we took the loot from a decent 30-4 team. LSU beat a respectable Wake Forest team and should have beaten a good Kansas State team. We beat a talented dysfunctional Arkansas team but can't beat south carolina. the story goes beyond muc being a bust.

Put me in the conspiracy theory group that something happened internally for this team to give up. 2 totally different teams from beginning of season to mid of SEC play.

I doubt we are squeaky clean but Wade was on a higher level of dirty than most and it cost him and us. We will need to get creative for sure.

At the beginning of the season we were playing bad teams, now we're playing good teams.

I really don't think anything happened. I just think they had a brutal schedule to open SEC play and that just killed their confidence going forward.

Yeah I think that was part of the punishment…. Get rid of Wade, give us the hardest schedule imaginable and watch us implode to the basement of the sec

Except for the fact they beat (then top 10) Arkansas and played well at Kentucky in the first two games of that schedule. A&M then completely shut down LSU's offense in the next game and, evidently, provided the blueprint to the rest of the league on how to do so. McMahon never adjusted and they (for the most part) got throttled the rest of the way.

Certainly I would agree losing hurts your confidence. But what hurts your confidence even more is your coaching staff continuing to run out a clearly failing approach and expecting different results.
