I’m hearing from some booster friends (same that have in some instances stopped donating) that under almost any scenario, even just a 4 win season, that O will be retained.

The reasons are both practical and financial. First off, LSU is not in a position to pay Les, O and another coach (most boosters are unwilling to buy away Alexander’s problem here).

Second, LSU is not going to be in a position to have to replace an AD and a coach at the same time, which means the university has to use a search firm exclusively to make a HC hire that the new AD might not like.

So, if LSU does not fair well (9 wins is the number I’ve heard plus financials) then expect Alleva to be canned.

O would then have one year to win or he’ll be gone.

It’s a bad situation compounded by incompetence and apathy at the top. There are still a lot of pissed off boosters.

I'll settle for Alleva getting the ax this year.

if it were to get that bad, bringing O back for a lame duck season with an unrealistic goal in order to be retained would just make no sense and potentially disastrous

Sooner rather than later.

But yeah, Doc...from a practical standpoint, all of what you say is almost certainly true. Makes me want to vomit, but it's probably the situation as it stands.

I am assuming so it doesn't look like he can easily be fired at any time. It would make it hard to hire coaches and recruit if he had a contract that would easily let him be fired in two years.

With that said Alleva could have been smarter about doing it, instead of giving O a buy out worth of a top 5 coach.

Any chance we can win 10 games but still get Alleva canned?!

I wouldn't have given O a handshake as a buyout much less what our resident moron AD gave him.

Alleva is just the worst. I am throwing a party the day he's fired. Knowing our cowardly money grubbing administration, they will let him retire.

It actually makes a tremendous amount of sense when you look at the totality of circumstances.

If this is the current reasoning of the decision makers, it counsels for dismissal of Alleva right NOW, to leave more options open for December of 2018.
I would favor that, but I think F. King should be shown the door as well...

Bottom line, as long as the bottom doesnt fall out (ie we make a bowl at minimum) he will be retained and given 3 years.

If the bottom does fall out, meaning losing season, losing recruiting class, losing coaches, worst of all potentially lost some players...a change will 100% be made, no doubt in my mind. At that point, you've lost the fanbase otherwise and they cant afford that vs. paying a measly buyout.

He's the 29th highest paid coach. Where do you get "big contract" from that?

Why start this conversation right before the season begins?
Are you from Alabama?

The question is If LSU has a ten win season does he get a raise and extension?? I’d say no because he won’t be getting offers to leave (besides him not leaving his dream job was a reason he was hired). I’d be pissed if he got an extension until his final year.

That is a huge contract considering his qualification and the fact that he was begging for the job. But what throws the contract in the stratosphere is the huge buyout...for a coach that no other team in the country has any interest in.
