I tried to find a WVU message board and I only found the 247 board. They did not really discuss LSU much, the main baseball thread was their LSU vs LR watch thread where they were hoping LR would win so they could host the super.

The vibe I got is that they aren't all that confident. They are hoping the breaks fall their way and they pull it off. Their main sticking point is that they feel like they are good on the road.

I have not seen much discussing them or found online discussing their strengthens and weaknesses.

A Quick Look at stats will tell your their weakness. It’s defense. For being a very good team, they fricking suck at fielding and average multiple errors per game.

Their top 2 starters dont walk guys so might not be the best approach to sit and wait. Frankly its going to be about jumping on them and getting runs early making WVU feel like they have to go to their bullpen which we want.

They are going to ride Griffin. They will not have a short leash. Working the count against him is definitely the move. Now game 2 depending on who they start then sure maybe jumping on the first pitch you like is doable. However, that is not typically the approach Jay has the guys implement. We almost always work deep into counts and find a mistake to drive it. I would not want to change that approach with this staff. They have 3 arms who are very quality pitchers and quick counts can lead to short innings and lengthy outings which will hurt the offense.

Hopefully we can buck the trend of the fly outs that we saw this weekend and make WV's defense make the play.

A frustrating experience last weekend.

They are evidently road warriors with a 24-5 record versus 17-7 at home

Definitely worth mentioning

Probably their best chance in a long time to reach Omaha and they have to go through BR versus 2 first round starters

They will have to earn it

Much of that road record was built up against very weak opposition. They went 11-0 against Jacksonville St, Lipscomb, and Queens with another 5-0 against #94 RPI Houston, #98 Marshall, 200+ Ohio St. They only played 5 road games against tournament teams with single wins over Oklahoma St and Clemson and a 1-2 series loss to Kansas St.

Pitching 2 very good starting pitchers. Not much depth at all behind them. If this goes to a game 3, we 'should' have the advantage assuming Evans is still available to start game 3. Neither team has a super reliable bullpen so how deep the starters go will be huge. That being said, WV's bullpen was a disaster this past weekend. As inconsistent as ours has been, we still have the advantage there.

Kirn is super solid and has pitched well over the last month against top opposition. The bullpen did blow a good start against Kansas giving up 6 runs in 2 innings to lose 8-7.

Kartsonas has good stats overall, but WVU has given up 40 runs in his last 4 starts. The bullpen performed poorly in all 4 games and Kartsonas gave up 12 ER in 20.1 IP. Unless he goes deeper than he has of late (only 1 of the last 4 was longer than 5.1 IP), LSU has a good shot against him with Eyanson on the mound.

They have no other starter that had an ERA below 7.66 in Big 12 play and have given up 20 in their last 2 games not started by Kirn or Kartsonas.

They are also a good defensive team

I had heard someone (maybe Musso) say on a podcast that WVUs fielding was actually really bad. They have around a .962 fielding percentage which is not good at all lol.

Moscona says they like to pressure defense play small ball and steal bases and this is one of best defense in LSU history and baseball this year so he thinks it plays into our hands. They have about 1/2 as many home runs but 3x as many stolen bases.

We better be working on defending bunts, pitch outs and throwing to 2nd, and hitting the ball.
