Do you have any info on knowing that Alleva leaked it to the press?
See above. I have heard at least half of dozen sports writers, commentators criticize him for making the leak. I think all the sirius radio guys have said this. It just appears to be widely known. I have no proof he did or didn't do it but it appears more like than not he had a hand in it or knew about it based upon the totality of circumstances and his actions. Has he denied that he was the source of the leak or that it was done under his authority.

Are you more connected within the press than Randy Rossetta?

its very simple why he did, it was all a done for a feel of what reaction the fans would have, they wanted to see the general reaction for players, taf members, etc was. This is a big Business. It would have worked out fine if most people and boosters wanted him gone. It backfired because Les became bigger than Alleva towards the end of it. The smearing of LSU in the national media didnt help either. it was a huge mistake on Allevas part. Like i said i wouldnt be suprised if he gets the axe

the only other strategy would have been to turn up the heat on miles to force him to change the offense
pretty terrible plan considering every recruit now has to wonder if Les will be there to see them graduate and every potential OC will now wonder if they should tie their sails to what might not be the most stable boat on the water
I didn't say it was a good idea

quote:And that's why I've thought any leaks originated from Jimbo Fisher's side. Jimmy Sexton is a master of getting raises and extensions for his coaching clients.
If you are looking for a source of leaks, a good starting point is who benefitted from the leaks.
I can very easily see Sexton informally mentioning to an acquaintance at a Florida newspaper (or even the Baton Rouge or New Orleans newspapers) that LSU was making inquiries as to Fisher's interest in leaving FSU. That acquaintance asked around if anyone had heard about it. Word gets back to a BR newspaper writer and it ends up in a column. Then the internet. Then national TV.
Rabalais at the BR Advocate was the first sportswriter I saw who mentioned "sources" were saying Miles was coaching for his job. Then I saw on Yahoo Sports that "a Baton Rouge newspaper" reported that Miles was coaching for his job and Fisher was a possible replacement. Then CBSSports.com reported that Yahoo Sports was saying Miles was about to be fired and Fisher was the favored replacement. Then ESPN picked up on it....
It just went in circles, with rumors feeding on themselves in the frenzy.
I just don't see any advantage to Alleva for leaking that Miles was coaching for his job.

Was he trying to create pressure for a change, let Miles try to save his job etc? I just don't understand the perceived advantage of this.
There is no way in hell that Alleva leaked that to the press. There is only downside in doing that. One of the idiot boosters leaked it probably trying to show out for the press.

Either he never had the authority to remove Miles and he should be fired to letting it get to the point it did when the president got involved,
can't see someone/anyone going rogue on something like this. If he initiated the change- and we believe he did- he would have no reason to do so without some blessings from those with teh power to approve the deal. That said, I can't see the guy leaking info that will be counter productive to his goal of replacing Miles.

OR...he DID have the authority and FKA killed it in the 11th hour. In which case King should be fired. I also would have resigned if I were Alleva in that scenario.
this is the most plausible scenario IMO. I wouldn't be surprised to see JA accept another position inasmuch as FKA has proven to be untrustworthy, weak, arbitrary, and an utter frickstick of a human being.
Should that scenario be the case.

Who benefited from the leak? That's who I think did it.

It really doesn't matter how the leak got out or the "reason" for it. What mattered and continues to be the terrible point of this whole situation is this: Once the rumors became a self-sustaining life of its own the administration, JA, should have made a public announcement that there was no plan to replace Les Miles. Miles, the staff, and the program direction would be evaluated at the end of the season just as it is at the end of each and every season. That would have laid the ugliness of the rumors to rest and if that was the plan they could have followed through after the season. As it is now they have allowed a cloud to settle on the program. How can you replace some staff with capable people without a guarantee of some job security? How can you maintain the excellent recruiting class that had been assembled without the assurance that the staff they were committing to would be here??? The coach, staff, players, game plans and games played have shown more class and meaningful thought than the administration has shown. My 2cents

You seem to complain a lot about this place. Makes me wonder why you bother coming here.

I believe this was a ploy by the higher ups to : 1. let miles know he is on very thin ice 2. announce to all agents of coaches to submit resumes for next year 3. basically light a fire to let players, coaches and fans that status quo is unacceptable. 4 told Aleva to STFU and let the soup boil 5. and at last second called off the hitman and let Doofus A tell Doofus B that he still had a job. Got all these things without spending a dime, with no one holding a smoking gun and many messages delivered and status evals passed out left and right.
Ya know. That ain't bad.
Actually pretty damn smart.
Also:
6. Test the waters on the proposed action, and
7. If the blowback looks bad, LSU looks gracious for keeping him and giving him another chance.
