Any data junkies know what our defensive rating would be without the big pass plays?

If we take away all of the points we’ve given up this year we’d be averaging giving up 0 per game. Best defense ever

Out of 127 teams we are 125 in passing defense.

32 in rush defense.

112 in total defense.

If we were to eliminate the big pass plays we would also have to eliminate the big pass plays from other defenses for a fair comparison. IMO for a good estimate we would still be ranked above 100 in that category too.

This is probably the worse defense in LSU football history.

Silly post. You can spin something like that when a team has a stellar defensive game but gives up say a 60 or 70 yard play. Then some stats are skewed for that game.

LSU is consistently getting beat by big plays. I think its the flat out worst team in the nation in giving big plays per game. You can't just take that from the equation. Even South Carolina, MSU not big play teams sliced this D with big plays. Even Vandy had a few big runs.

Take away the big plays and they just have more small good plays

Just for the hell of it:

20+ yards allowed by defense: LSU ranked 111
30+ yards allowed by defense: LSU ranked 116
40+ yards allowed by defense: LSU ranked 124
50+ yards allowed by defense: LSU ranked 126
60+ yards allowed by defense: LSU ranked 112
70+ yards allowed by defense: LSU ranked 93
80+ yards allowed by defense: LSU ranked 93
90+ yards allowed by defense: LSU ranked 120

Yeah, this defense loves giving up big plays.

It's on par with that. Only time LSU has averaged giving up more than 400 yds per game was 98 Tepper's abortion at 407. This team is giving up above 480 I think. Teams pass more and run more plays these days so that may skew things but make no mistake about it, this year's D is every bit the shite show that Tepper team was. To say Pellini has not done a good job is the understatement of the century.

Hopefully then can still turn it around and have some solid games ahead. Pellini has been a good coach before and LSU has some good players.

Our current rating is accurate. It is not like those big plays are flukes; they happen time and time again. They are part of what our defense is this year.

After the Miss. St. game I was hoping that it was a fluke, but things have improved little since then.

Solid strategy here. Don’t tackle them in the 70-80 yard range and it turns into 90+ yard play, bumping your 70-80 yard play rankings down into the double digits

big pass plays count. You can’t just ignore them.
