It just shows that the draft is based on current perspective of what the player can bring to the league. A good season could put him back in the 1st round making his life 10x better by only delaying earnings by 1 year. The risk/reward of staying seems to be more on the stay side.

And if he is not good enough to ever be a first rounder ever then why would a euro team ever give him $200,000 when he is unproven. People do not understand the euro market.

In Europe veterans make much more than rookies and bigs make much more than guards. He is currently not worth $200,000 in Europe.

Well he was a projected 1st rounder when he signed with LSU......I read multiple articles about his possibility of being a top 10 pick in 2016.

Those same articles probably said LSU was going to Final 4 with he and Simmons. Point is, that doesn't mean much now.

Don't we have people who can fix this for a while and keep Blakeney on the roster?

Worst case scenario for him he's playing in one of the top Euro leagues in a country he'll enjoy. Some guys take interesting paths to the league...he's limited in a couple aspects but certainly has the talent.

Let's compare with Quarterman.

Tim went undrafted but got his shot in Summer League. He managed to grab the 15th and last roster spot with the Blazers at the rookie minimum 542k.

However, the pressure was on from the beginning. He had to hang around long enough--I think February--for his contract to be guaranteed. Had the Blazers decided to release him before that date, their financial obligation would have ended then and there.

As it was, the Blazers felt with Tim's nice wingspan for a point guard, he was worth investing the league minimum in, and it was a big day for him when he remained on the roster long enough to guarantee he gets his whole rookie contract.

The Blazers have sent him to D-League for 2-3 stints so he gets some playing time and they are trying to develop their investment. Tim still got paid at the NBA rate in D League, since he was under contract to the Blazers.

Next season, the pressure gets ratcheted up. The NBA minimum for a second year player is 915K. The Blazers will not double TQ's salary if he isn't developing a shot and progressing beyond the last guy on the bench. They'll sign a rookie FA to whom they can pay the minimum and let the second year guy go.

Good luck to Tone. But 6-3 shooting guards who can't run the point are a dime a dozen among guys trying to secure the last NBA roster spots. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see AB landing an actual NBA contract after summer league. I think he gets a D League or Foreign contract and from there, the hope is he can develop into an NBA bench player or more.

But the pressure is on now. For Blakeney, Quarterman, and other guys fighting for those final roster spots, you don't relax at the end of an NBA bench.

It's a constant cycle of up or out.

Well Blakeney is listed at 6-4 with a very good wingspan for a guard. I know college sometimes exaggerates height but he is a far better athlete than quarterman and a better player period. I agree he needs more time in college but if TQ made it to the league this season Blakeney can definitely do it. The NBA is more guard friendly now and he's got very good scoring ability in the half court and on the break. Gotta remember he put up some very good numbers without any structure so that translates better than most with his stat line.

Why does his more time have to be in college? Why do people think he has to develop in college when he can develop another year in d league or overseas actually getting paid against tougher competition with rules closer to the NBA? Point is if he needs another year to develop and his family really is struggling he is more than likely going to get the same development as a pro and actually make some money.

His only limitation is his ball handling. He won't play in the NBA next year, but he definitely has the potential to get there. When you can score like he can, in multiple ways, you can play basketball virtually as long as you want.

You do know that the average euro salary is $65,000 right? Add cultural barriers and it's not that fun for a US basketball player.

The guys I know that played overseas for any length of time made a shite ton of money. Also no one is considering that being in a foreign place will limit his accessibility to potential deadbeats looking for a handout.

Well, he almost certainly won't get drafted as I have been periodically checking several NBA mock drafts and I've only seen him listed on one as the 59th overall pick, not at all on all of the rest.'

But I'm sure his hope is he can latch on as a free agent like Quarterman did and make a team.

He will soon be selling subscriptions for Direct TV and AT&T at your local Sam's. At best he's a D League prospect...probably see him playing in Israel or Turkey one day....he's not good enough for the Chinese League

Yep. Gotta play a little defense in the NBA unless you can score 30 a game. He is a streak shooter and I have yet to see him create his own shot off the dribble in the half court offense consistently.

Wow. You don't know basketball bro. He might/might not be good enough for the NBA but someone who has a vertical of 40" and can shoot like him will not have a normal job. He will be making six figures in year one and if he continues to grow and get better could make millions in 5 years.

Most of these people are just spewing bullshite. He is WAY better than two of the guys from BG and they had careers overseas.
