Sadly, I'm hearing Andre is done. ACL. Really hate it. He's just a great leader and a good player. Sad.
Well dammit. This one stings.

I was working out a few years ago and felt (or what appeared to feel like) a zipper bring unzipped in the back of my right knee.
It was the same knee I had surgically repaired back in 2008.
Knee was sore for about 2 weeks and then I was fine since. I’m sure I sprained the repaired ACL and just took it easy for those 2 weeks.

The fact that he was able to walk off on his own (barely) is what had me worried it was an ACL injury.

I’ll be shocked if it’s not torn ACL. The mechanism of injury is very common for ACL injury. Hate it for the kid.

I doubt it. From what the doctors told me, a sprained ACL hardly ever heals by itself due to low blood flow.

Just to be clear - a sprained and a torn ACL are the same. All tears are sprains. Sprains are graded from partial to complete, pretty much on what percentage of fibers are torn.
There is some consensus that a partial ACL tear doesn’t really exist. Unlike a lot of other ligaments, when it fails it pretty much tears completely. At least enough to be functionally unstable.
It doesn’t do well with a repair, and must be reconstructed to function properly.
I have no idea what Anthony has, but watching the video it looks like a classic ACL injury. I suppose it could be a meniscus tear only, especially if he had a partial tear already, but I would be pleasantly surprised if it was, and glad to be wrong.

While a grade III sprain does involve a complete tear of the ligament, when you use the word sprain, you are really referring to grade I or grade II injuries. which involve some stretching or tearing of the ligament, but it remains intact. This typically heals within weeks. There is some loosening of the ligament in grade II, which makes the joint feel less stable. Complete tears require surgery in physically active patients.

Would be willing to bet he tore his ACL unfortunately
Since he was flexing, I’m hoping it was only a sprain or MCL. If it’s ACL, I’m pretty confident at least it wasn’t a full tear.

quote:I had a partial ACL tear along with a bucket tear of my medial meniscus. The doctor was anticipating having to replace the ACL, but when he went in he found most of it intact. He said he had to shave away about 10% of it, but that mine was thick enough that after losing 10% it was still thicker than most peoples.

So, I'm guessing partial tears do exist but are rare.

Hey now! None of that! I don't even want to think about having 10% of that shaved off.
That sounds... unpleasant.

Left the shaved off part out on purpose

So im pretty good friends with Andre's brother and I text him yesterday evening and asked him if the ACL was torn and he gave me a vague answer of "Na he all good". The message was returned late last night so I didnt get a chance to respond to actually get a hard yes or no.

It was confirmed it was just a sprain and not a torn ligamen
It’s confirmed as a torn ACL. out for the year. This is a dominant DE and a wonderful young man.

Where you hearing this at? He hasn't even had an MRI yet! I'm thinking he probably did tear it unfortunately but I don't think anything has been confirmed as of yet.

When my son tore his (football game, non-contact), Brent Bankston told me the Lachman test performed by an experienced Orthopedist is greater than 90% accurate. MRI’s usually have to wait several days for swelling to subside to confirm.
As for partial tears. He (Bankston) determined my son’s was partially torn, he rehabbed as if it were torn and by Spring, pitched an entire baseball season. Then finished the job on his first day of Spring football and had to have the surgery. Oh, and when he initially tore it, he wanted to go back into the game, luckily Bankston was there and told him and the coach no. Was walking with no problem.

Oh, he hadn’t had the MRI as of this morning? I wonder what the magnetic tube from yesterday was.
