i would have thought they would announce before the bowl game..

Correct ... in the fact that they would "announce" that some of the defensive staff has left for other jobs (but they won't do this through a "public" announcement of termination ... it'll just be that so-and-so has left the program and accepted a job at School X), and hence you don't have a complete staff which allows Miles to take more in-home visits.. The problem you run into is that you can't officially announce your NEW coordinator or staff until after the bowl game because if you do that you no longer have the "incomplete staff" allowing for Miles to take more in-home visits.

the offical hiring, if there is one, cannot take place until it is advertised for a period, because of rules and laws

know

I heard from a source that the DCs will definately be fired but the other names mentioned in the firings are just rumors for now.

The LSU Tiger Nation needs to start the healing and rebuilding process and that starts with the firing of Malleveto

I have no sources, but I choose to believe that it's telling that Rosetta, who makes his living off what Miles tells him, is running stories about O and Chavis.

#1 ... they're not going to fire someone (Peveto) who might possibly be taking a head coaching job somewhere else. If that happens, there's no reason for the bad press of a "firing" for either party. Just let him take the job, wish him well and let him move on (although I think Peveto is one of the few that will be retained at LSU and demoted if he doesn't get the NWState job).

This makes sense.

It wouldn't surprise me if Miles and Chavis have a deal in place, to be announced at the right time.

Greg Burke, the AD at NW State, wants to have a new HC in place by Christmas.

It's a good face-saving move for Peveto if he gets hired there.

If I'm a Northwestern State fan though, even though BDP has ties to the school, I sure wouldn't be excited about BDP as head coach.

My friend, relax. We have several really good options in Chavis, Bumpas, Nix,.......... and there are interviews to take place, staff decisions to be made, and a proper and professional ( not panic ) way to make the right call for the long term benefit of the program. We will have a new DC in the near future.

Miles is meeting with reporters at 3:30 this afternoon. I posted it on another thread, but it didn't cycle back to the first page.

Not expecting any major announcements, but he is meeting with them for the first time since the Arkansas game. If I thought it was going to be something big, I'd have started a separate thread for it, but I'm not expecting anything other than the usual Miles-isms.

If we lose coaches on the defense, Miles can take more in-home visits during Dec/Jan than he would normally be able to take with a full staff, which it is a very good thing for the head coach to be able to take more in-home visits than normal. Thus, we will probably already have a deal in place with a new DC but they will wait until January to officially announce it.
Wow. I had no idea about this. Is this a special NCAA rule for undermanned staffs?

As far as people that want someone announced NOW for the sake of re-invigorating yourself for ONE game (the bowl game), that's just stupid.
Well, not for that reason necessarily, but there are good reasons to get a new DC immediately. We have a bunch of practices between now and the bowl game. Giving the new DC and the players 20 or so practices to get used to each other and start the communication process on the field could be significant help come spring.

I don't know the exact rule, but I do know that if you're understaffed (i.e, lose coaches for whatever reason) that the head coach gets to take more visits than normal in place of the visits that those assistant coaches would have been able to take if there was a full staff. However, if you replace those coaches immediately, then the number of in-home visits the HC gets stays the same and the new assistants would have to take the extra visits. It's always good for the HC to take as many visits as he can as recruits eat that up when the head man comes to see them.

As far as getting the new coaches in so that they can practice with the team for a month and at least start to build "chemistry", I'm on board with that theory. My point is just that everyone needs to be patient. If we go ahead and name the new defensive staff and they come aboard and start practicing with the team for the bowl, great! If we hold off on officially naming the staff, I certainly understand why because of the aforementioned recruiting reasons. Either way, we're getting a new staff, that's the main thing, lol ... that's a start!
