You will be dumber just for reading it. Burrow doesn't make the top 50... Neither does Chase Young.

Their premise is clearly flawed.

"New"... using the rating system for football games. Basically just plugged what they wanted into Madden.

So, according to this metric, the best player on our team is Austin Deculus. Who knew? Looks like we've been focusing on the wrong Heisman candidate, boys...

Yeah. I'm guessing some ESPN writers were bored.
Here's the flaw:

The abridged version is this: For every player, we compare his team's performance when he's on the field vs. when he's off it,
So these ratings aren't really measuring who the best players in college football are. It would be more accurate to say that it's a measure of how valuable those players are to their particular team. And even that is a bit iffy.
If your starting QB is really good, and the backup QB is also fairly decent, then it makes the starting QB rank worse than if the backup QB was atrocious.

I find it interesting, and has some validity. It looks at the delta (drop off) on a play-by-play basis when player X is replaced by player Y. That has some value.
It by no means is a stand alone system because the great players have consistency AND make above average plays at critical times. It doesn't account for that, hence it not the end all be all.
It also doesn't account for 'quality depth'. Even though I think Deculus is an above agerage OT, he isn't one of the best out of the +260 starters in all of CFB. However, his replacement isn't performing as well as he is.
So if his replacement (Traore, Magee) was performing at the same, or better, level he would be ranked much lower. That right there makes these kind of stupid. Huge hole in the ranking system right there. At that point it tells you nothing about the starter, or the backup. It becomes a black hole. And that's probably why Young isn't there... A) he moves around alot and B) his backup is probably very good but we just don't know him yet (we'll see this week).

Ok, I stopped reading it right there, anything with a a-hole name like that should be ignored.

Just curious, why was this downvoted?

That's the point. Their conclusion is that JB9 is NOT so valuable to one of the best teams in CFB. Makes no sense to me.
