And to clarify, on the race issue, I don't think EVERYONE bases their support of JJ or JL on race. Of course their are logical folks that weigh ability and production. But as an outsider, it appears that it drives a lot of the discussion.
2 of our favorite and most popular quarterbacks in the past 20 years were black (Rohan Davey and Herb Tyler). Don't come on some message board and read a couple posts and think you have a whole group of people figured out. Isn't that what northerners are supposed to understand by being open-minded and not STEREOTYPING?

As a point of reference I loved it when I moved out west and learned that stereotyping Mexicans or Asians is fine, that's not racism since they aren't black. Nice...Two Wongs doesn't make a white.
Oh speaking of pot meet kettle and throwing stones in glass houses, this guy is spot on. I've spent enough time on the west coast to notice more than a regions far share of racism.

You come on a message board and bash people you don't know for being prejudiced, by doing what? Stereotyping?
Living in the N.W. I really can appreciate how funny it is that some of these people think southern folk are ignorant hicks, yet continually stereotype them. Ironic.

I'm sorry man but a lot of the people that hate JJ on here and IRL are racists. But I won't say it's the majority or anything.
Stats don't support their cause and the whining done for the "mistreatment" speaks volumes.

the vitriol towards JJ has no other explanation
Any time someone says "There can be no other explanation" for something it means he hasn't thought hard enough. That's true about most things btw, not just football.
One reason you probably haven't considered is that Rantards generally don't think things through all that carefully to begin with and might believe something that isn't true. Or maybe it's just trolling to stir up someone. Might not have anything to do with race at all.
Besides, people who hate one QB vs. another will have their own personal reasons that will vary. Race may have something to do with it for some, and not for others.

I am sure there are white "fans" who dislike JJ because he is black just like there are black folks who dislike Lee because he is white, and the white guilt crowd that feel they have to support JJ. We can go on and on with a few vocal minorities.
It isn't the reason fans are not on the JJ or Lee fanwagons however. It sure is a convenient reason for those who can't think beyond their own basic programming though.
Both have some skills the other doesn't, both have weaknesses. It would be nice to see both close it out with some success in the NCG, and I hope it happens.

1) The level of fanatacism at LSU for college football is at or above any level at any sport in the world. A 50-year-old man who grew up in the streets of Rio who loves his Brasilian soccer is probably the only thing that truly equals it. I do not expect you to agree with this cause you did not grow up in Louisiana in the 70's-thru-now, and have the thrill of attending even one meaingless game that LSU beat Rice 77-0 as surpassing your best Christmas gift of that year and be the TRUE highlight of your childhood that entire year. That is what LSU meant to me as a kid, and my love was sealed to the highest level of fanatacism there on.
2) As a result, and admittendly at a level beyond pure logic (which is what you are trying to apply) and to the level of true love, the Tigers are something many of us ranters plug into, not just every single day of the year, but multiple times EACH AND EVERY day of the year. We have about 5-10 sources to plug into to get our LSU football fix EACH DAY, 365 DAYS a YEAR, and we do. It is nutts and it is real.
3) No one "hates" any player. As the saying goes, hate the sin not the sinner. SO, 99+% (you can never get 100% of anything in life) on this board hate the bad play, not the player. The LSU QB situation has had a plethora of situations over the last few years to call this to the equation. We speak candidly on this site called THE RANT (maybe you should look up the meaning of the word) and we hate terrible performances because it means our Tigers are not getting the performance they should. In addition, the backup QB is always popular, as is the case in most places were QB's throw for 30 yards in a game and fail to get the team a first down in an entire half due to very poor play of the QB. That, my friend, is rationale thought. It is not hate, BUT it IS disappointment, frustration, and SOMETIMES it is genuine disagreement with a coaching decicion, all wrapped up on a venting and sharing site called the RANT!
3) Many of us pay thousands of dollars, not via some corporate benefit, but from our own savings accounts. I personally have an LSU savings account so I can buy season tickets, pay the TAF fees, bowl tickets, air fare, hotels, etc, etc, etc... So eff off in your telling me and those like me that this is not our right to rant and to have high expectations.
These are the main answers to your question. If you do not understand it, then so be it.
Good luck to you and your sporting interests.
As for we Tigers, we love the team no matter how it appears to you or others, and we are gonna be in the Dome to win our 3rd Crystal Trophy on 1/9!
GEAUX TIGERS !

I am sickened by a fan basing his view on who starts by racism it should be completely about performance.
It is also disgusting that any fans who criticizes JJ for games such as Sat nite is immediately branded a racist. You cant comment on JJ's performance unless you gush all over him!

The love-hate thing with QBs has been going all of my life. My first experience with it was Lyons-Moreau. To sit in the stands and listen to the students bitch on every play, no matter who was in there, you wouldn't have thought you were in TS.

We'll just agree to disagree. I don't feel like getting into a race debate.

I'm as surprised as everybody else that Lee isn't getting much playing time. But I'm sure Les has a good reason for that.
What people fail to understand is that this is Les' job and he gets paid a great deal of money for these types of decisions.
With all that also comes huge responsibility if it doesn't go right... He has a lot more to lose than we all do in regards to the starting QB.

Hi All,
First, I'm a University of Washington (Class of '95) and Michigan fan (Lass of '98-Law School). I'm "huskylawyer" on dawgman.com, the primary University of Washington football forum (paying member with almost 2000 posts). I say this so people don't think I'm some closet LSU fan that posted on the QB situation before. I'm also a HUGE Miles fan, and I'm disappointed that he didn't go to Michigan.
I planned on signing up for this forum in anticipation of the UW-LSU football game (which I plan to attend). I started to lurk here the past few weeks to get information on your team. Great fans and insightful, but something completely shocked me.
What is the deal with the utter hate of your QBs???!!!
Reading the posts, it just seems crazy, and I've never seen anything like it. Many of you literally despise YOUR OWN!? I never seen a fan base turn on their own players as bad as here. Sure, all fans will get mad at their players, but they still support the player since they are "one of our own." Those kids are attending your school (and in some cases, YOUR CLASSMATES), and contributing. And I see posts like, "he's dumb" or "I can't wait till he's gone." You guys even turn on former players (e.g., Jamarcuss Russell). What is up with that?
At UW, last year we had Jake Locker. He was super fast, could probably play RB in the NFL, but he was a terrible QB. He couldn't hit a barn if it was in front of him. We got a new traditional pocket passing QB this year, and he proceeded to break the passing TD record (30). We had lots of debates on Locker at Dawgman, but you know what, NONE of us said we hate him. None of us said he was dumb. If trolls from other teams attacked him, we STILL defended him, even though we knew he was an inadequate QB. Why? Because he was one of us. A few years ago we had Isiah Stanback (a WR in the NFL) playing QB. He wasn't a very good QB, and we lost a lot of games. But you know what? We all still love him, because he's a Dawg. We cheer when he does well in the NFL.
But here, you guys literally hate JJ or JL. You call them names. Sure, JJ had his assault deal, and JL seems like he has little interest in class, but they are YOUNG MEN (like many of you) who make mistakes, and why would you turn on your own because of that?
From an outsider, honestly, and this is just being blunt - it appears some of you have BIG issues with race. That's sad, as we are in 2011, and it kinda reinforces stereotypes about Louisiana.
As for who should be starting, personally, you guys are crazy for questioning Miles, as unless you attend practice every day, the results speak for themselves. Miles prefers JJ, and he doesn't trust JL. It ain't rocket science. The reason behind that isn't some "affirmative action" (as one poster shockingly said in a post I read), but rather, he EVERY DAY dealings with JJ and JL. As for my own person opinion, frankly, I think you guys are a better team with JJ. Like our former QB (Locker), he's a great athlete with questionable decision making skills and throwing ability. But the team seems to rally around him, and his mistakes (incomplete passes), aren't as killing as JL's mistakes (you lose to Bama if Lee plays that entire game--for that alone you should be grateful to have JJ). He also doesn't seem to get flustered as much as Lee I'd gather that Miles, who is a lot smarter than all of us, sees that. Its kinda like Tebow in Denver. Before this weekend, he was downright outfall, and passes like a woman. But you know what? He wins, and that is all that matters.
But regardless of who you think is better, why would you turn ON YOUR OWN. Again, I'm just flabbergasted that some of you guys would hate your own players, largely over "fanbois" who support a player because of the color of their skin. It is just sad.
Just had to add in on this topic. I was going to post on "where should us Husky fans stay" but I had to post on this because I was in utter shock at what is going on here. Never seen a fan base turn on their own players who contribute to the team (the Jamarcuss Russell bashing was surprising as well). We had Billy Joe Hobert, who was generally a punk and put us on probation for buying corvettes every year. But you know what, he's a Dawg, and we all support him, despite what he did.
The race deal you bring up is an unfortunate mix of a polarizing issue for all of us, combined with the alleged anonymity of the internet. It exists, & those that cover it up with talking points & public fronts feel more inclined to toss it around behind a keyboard & monitor.
Having said that, great post, but good luck getting very far with the Rant using logic & good sense.
Its a Sisyphian effort, Giorgibro Armani.

Yes because criticizing JJ for his 25 yard total offense performance Sat nite or his 4 yards of total offense vs McNeese in 2010 or numerous other performances like that by him is no basis to criticize!
