Kind of weird... there weren't a whole lot of throws to first to hold runners, or many walks to the mound to change pitchers, or long injury timeouts... just seemed strange to go on so long.

Did you not notice the K zone being the size of a pea? That had alot to do with the time, and yes, there were alot of mound conferences

Last night's game was something of an anomaly for 2013.

Any 9 inning game where the teams create an additional 8 outs (5 errors by LSU and 3 by SHSU) is going to last longer than a "regular" 9 inning game.

I was there for every pitch and I will always remember the atmosphere and passion in that game.....all "almost 4 hours" of it.

I guess Rex's ADHD gave him trouble during a longer than usual game.

The first inning was almost an hour long by itself

I like the way the SEC pitch clock has speeded up the game without taking away from it. Just my opinion.

Yeah, that was good, but they don't really regulate it. Can't remember last time I saw someone get called on it

I remember looking at the clock, and realized how long it was lasting, but it didn't bother me because even though we can say it was sloppy, was still exciting, my stomach had butterflies, thought I was watching a football game wondering what Les was going to do next...

Yep. I loved this game. Every painful moment of it. And then the pain stopped. And all was right with the world.

Officiating sucked. Errors sucked. Poor plays that were not errors sucked. Nola fighting back after that disaster of a first inning and saving his 0 era for the game was fabulous. Cotton was boss. Bregs better at the plate than in the field. Rhymes catch, stevenson catch.

This was good stuff.

STFU Rex!

Incorrect.

Incorrect.

or long injury timeouts..

"Injury timeouts"??? This ain't football.

You're forgetting the 1st inning "home run that wasn't a home run" controversy where the umpires huddled for several minutes debating how to blow that call.

Also as I mentioned, 8 errors extending innings.

And proving you don't know much about baseball, you also ignore there were 18 hits, 12 WALKS (!), and 2 hit batters.

All of those extend games.

I'm wondering why walks got excluded from the tradition of R-H-E summary info that gets shown onscreen.

Not entirely true in the SEC.

With that fricked up umpire behind the plate, you lucky it wasn't a 5 hour game.

Perhaps Democrats should introduce legislation to keep baseball games at 3 hours?

Probably because it matches the scoreboard on the field, and they don't track it. But I will say, normally, the announcers will constantly comment on the walk count of each pitcher during the game, so I don't mind it.

Last night, I saw a ton of strikes called balls, both ways. Had to be a frustrating night for pitchers.

Its sadly the inherent root problem with baseball as a whole. The game has stretched farther than the average American's attention span. If LSU isn't on, I won't pay attention to any baseball game unless it's the 8th inning or after, and the teams are separated by one or two runs. Baseball kind of just sucks. Sorry but it's just the way it is. It's gotten along fine without me being that much of a fan, and I'm sure it'll be around for as long as whatever, but I'm just not that interested.

Perhaps you should write your idol Obama and have him issue an executive order to require it under penalty of being audited by the IRS.

I'll never understand this obsession some people have with making sporting events shorter.

Broadcasters are always trying to make football games shorter.

People complain because baseball is sooo slow.

These sports actually existed before TV and short attention spans. How about YOU adapt to IT instead of IT adapt to YOU?

This times a bajillion. It's a game that you're watching for enjoyment. Whay does it have to be shortened? Just freaking enjoy it.

Damn. The guy can't come over to the Rant and make a thread about baseball without being attacked politically? Lighten up.

The game was so long because the umpire had a tiny strike zone.
