All of these basketball experts need to give it a break

Coach K and Jimmy V were both hired in 1980. In 1982 Coach K reeled in an amazing recruiting class (google it if you don't already know who they were). In 1983, Jimmy V won a national championship just up the road from Duke. UNC had won the title the year before. Duke went 11-17 (3-11 in conference) that year. Everyone at Duke was complaining about how they could have hired Jimmy V and instead got stuck with K. They said he was clueless, did not know how to utilize his talent, and was not able to make make any in-game adjustments.
Now this is for all of the idiots - I AM NOT SAYING THAT WADE IS COMPARABLE TO COACH K.
What I am saying is that even when you make a home run hire, it takes time for the program to develop. The recruits need to get better. The coach needs to get better. The identity and legacy of the program need to build.
Will Wade live up to his original hype? Who knows, but all of the nervous nellies and catastrophe cats need to settle down and just enjoy the ride. It will be a couple of years before we have the answer, and hopefully we'll get to watch some flashes of good basketball along the way.
By the way, I saw progress tonight.

I’ve given Wade a hard time but I have to remember... he’s 36. He’s in his 6th season as a coach. He’s growing too. And he’s never had this much raw talent.

Also, I’m pretty sure we were 7-5 ( close loses to Houston, Northern Iowa, Uconn, Cinci and Ohio st) in 2006. People need to chill the frick out.

Yep we started off rough in 2006. Always remember that calhoun for uconn complimented lsu big time after that night they beat us by 3. Said lsu was the best 8-5 (or whatever it was) team he had ever seen.

Think of these early non league games as an exhibition season, a time for learning and meshing. Many of these guys were in high school a year ago. These kids are unreal talented (Marlon Taylor for instance) and when it all clicks, its going to be fun.

Spot on. These idiots need to have their posting priveleges revoked for a while as well. The team very likely reads this stuff and deserves SUPPORT.
We will go on a run starting with Furman this week and will be well above 500 in conference. When this happens all of the idiots will then either disappear or say that they called it all along.

Here’s the thing though. I see good play in flashes but not nearly enough good play to think this team is going to do well in the first half of conference play. LSU is going to lose games against mediocre SEC teams bc they are just not playing that well. I do believe that by the end of the year, this team could be playing at a really high level, but I am worried that they will have lost too many conference games to dig out of the hole. I just don’t see a rapid turnaround in the near future for this team. It’s issues take time to work through, and I don’t see it happening fast enough.

We played a bit better defense. We did hit some shots down the stretch. Still got beat on the boards. Not going to win 12 SEC games getting beat on the boards like we are.
Naz played some more in the paint. Good.
Our offense gets us zero open looks. We do not cut hard to the basket. We rn pick and pop stuff out on the perimeter. We dribble and hand off. It is not working.
Clearly more talented team. Very very young.

There is only one team, Tennessee, in the SEC that is playing at a consistent high level. Guess what, they have a veteran team and a veteran coach who has been there long enough to get his coaching philosophy in place.

Many LSU fans have a football mindset. In football losing 1 game is about the max for contending for a Natty. In basketball you can lose 5,6, or 10 games and make it to the championship if your team peaks at the proper time. Of course you dont want to lose games in non competitive fashion and you need keep your record up good enough to get a decent tourney seed to have a decent chance.
As you pointed out... watch for progress especially in Jan. By Feb you want to be hitting on all cylinders.

IMHO Furperson is overated. There's no way they should sniff the top 25. LSU will make a noise nationally, and it starts Friday night.

This team is super young and the best players were in high school just a few months ago. Fans can't expect everything to go smoothly because these guys barely know each other. Give it time and you will some some big improvement. If you've ever coached, you understand these situations take time!

Astute analysis, I also thought they played a little bit better defense last night

So if people have opinions different than yours they should be banned?
Concerns about this team collapsing against better teams on the schedule is legit. If they don't get this figured out quickly it will snowball on them and make for a long season.

They suck right now. Plays with no effort. No movement. Nez shooting 3's from top of key. Needs yo be under basket. This team may not make SEC tournament if it don't get better quick

What I always remember is losing those close games and my dad and I said it will make us tough and grow for the sec and later on down road. Well we happened to be right. LSU figured out how to finish those games. Maybe LSU did last night. Maybe we can turn the corner

Those are great points that every fan should remember. Instead, we have a partial fan base who think every coach should be great from the start and improve from there. Every god win and they believe there should be no down games. Lose a game and they will never win again. The essence of young teams is their inconsistency from game to game, and even half to half.
There is also the absurd notion that every loss is somehow a profound ft level of the opponent, the youth of LSU and the hostile road venues. A young team can sometimes perform well for 35 minutes then suddenly go ice cold and commit a few turnovers and lose a close one down the stretch on the road. What did the coach do wrong? Should he have suddenly quit doiing the successful things they did for 35 minutes? He can't make the basket for them or prevent bad passes. Young teams often have to go through a few tough losses to learn to win. Yes, a young Kentucky team can out talent most opponents in those situations. LSU is not Kentucky. Yet.
Lets support Wade and all coaches in every sport. The constant negativity is way beyond old. If you can't make a balanced critical analysis then stay the hell off the board. Its better to say nothing and have us think you are a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I think this is fair. And he's never had this kind of talent and with that comes egos the likes of which he's never had to manage.
That was my main concern coming into this year - some told me don't sweat it because these are mostly good kids.
I saw some things I liked last night but we should have won that game by 20. We should not have been out-rebounded at all, much less as significantly as we were.

I saw progress too. I never was anti-Wade but was frustrated that he had a pretty obvious blind spot for Waters. He still does as he completely overplayed his minutes despite not starting.
Coming off the bench helped Waters and the team as a whole. I hope we stick with that and keep Water's minutes reduced so he can continue to progress.
