And on the drive we settled for FG, Harris had 6 rushing. The O Line looks like they haven't noticed two guys running free. The D lined up 3 on our 2 receivers to the right... The far left, out of frame, is two on two... And Fournette never had anyone on him... And how a QB doesn't see him running free is scary regarding our ability to read the simplest of cover schemes...

Also, there have been very few passes that Harris has tried to force, which is a good indicator that he is making the right decisions. You can criticize his accuracy and you have a point, but Harris has proven that he has little issue finding the open guy.

I criticize his accuracy, late throws, and he does have the issue of not checking down. He also seems to have only one speed on his passes.

All of these things can be improved, but him and the WRs need to live on the practice fields this year.

He throws to where the man is rather than where they are going to. This is a common shortcoming with young or inexperienced qb's. JJ did it his entire career. The under throws are more due to lack of reps as he has the arm to out throw the receiver but does not have an instinctual feel for the speed of the receiver. I hope it clicks in because he is very talented. The receivers need to help him out by adjusting and catching the damn ball. They are not going to get many chances and they'd better make the most of them. Time for Quinn on crossing patterns and some backs out of the backfield.

I pretty much said all of this in a post on the recruiting board. I believe both he and the WRs will improve, but they will have to work on it like crazy.

Mett was a senior with 2 full seasons and another one in CC while throwing to OBJ and Landry.

Improved pass blocking will go a LONG way toward settling Harris down. That is key to keeping eyes downfield and going through progressions.

However, saying Harris NEVER goes through progressions is jumping to conclusions. Go back and look at the nice 3rd down completion to Jeter in the EMU game. You can see in the closeup replay that Harris looks in Jeter's direction after another read, and then throws. It's possible Harris was looking off the safety, but it looked like a secondary route read to me. Just because he isn't proficient at checking down yet doesn't mean he can't at all, and certainly doesn't mean that he never will be able to.

he Late thing is what's really hurting him besides his receivers drops. He's usually a half a second late on short to intermediate routes usually a lot more on deep routes. However, he does usually throw a very pretty ball.

It's called anticipation, anticipating and throwing to where your reliever is going to be down field, it's the same concept on medium to long out routes. That is what Harris needs to learn. Anyone whose has played QB will tell you that.

Harris uses his throws like a gun, but he obviuosly has never duck hunted.

I noticed it on Harris's long ball vs. McNeese (right before the game went into a lightning delay/cancelation), that was way under thrown. I said that he should have recognized that opening about a half second sooner, he just hesitated.

That isn't surprising. He is just a little gun shy. I think Les/Cam's insistence on taking care of the football has made him question some of his throws, which he will begin to recognize a little better with experience.

I think it's more than that. He's waiting to see the WR open, which means the throw is late. That tells me he doesn't have trust and chemistry yet with the WRs. They have to run precision routes and be where Harris thinks they'll be or it might be an int.

And it doesn't help having an Oline struggling in pass protection.

Plus an NFL RB. That's the personnel and experience required for this offense.

I think this is more of an issue than is being made. I know Harris is going to have growing pains, but they could be seriously mitigated if his stout veteran O-Line would block better and his receivers would catch the damn ball when it hits their hands.

Look, LSU is a championship caliber football team, they have some issues to work on, and I am sure they will. With that being said, I am sure that this LSU team will continue to do the things required to win, that's what championship caliber teams do.
Relax and enjoy the season.

Harris has not been perfect, I don't expect him to be. He will continue to get better. He's better than last year and better than 10 was at any point last year.

At the end of the day, he makes enough good throws if he gets some help from the o-line and wr's. I watched the florida qb make some not so good throws against ole miss. However, their wr's made some very good plays to catch the ball. one handed grabs, stop and slide catches, high pointing the ball, breaking tackles and making extra yard. I wr's should make the qb look better, he shouldn't have to be perfect for them to catch the ball. The o-line should give him plenty of time to make a throw as well.

The o-line is the strength of the team, wr's are suppose to be another strength. If they raise their play, then the qb position (suppose to be a weakness) will be stronger.

Gotta have opportunities to get better. Needs way more reps. Hard for any QB to get in a rhythm only passing 4 times per quarter.
