it looked to me like he was jawing allot of shite and most likely saying things like "frick LSU" or whatever, and that's what got the call. If you noticed, the ref didn't throw the flag until AJ was right next to him and his gums were a flappin'

Quite possible. I certainly don't know why they threw that flag, but people such as Mark May that think that changed the outcome of the game need to shut up. Yes, it looked like a bogus call, but it did not change the outcome of the game!!!
As someone posted in another thread, the kickoff coverage was horrible! And how many tackles did CS break on his way to the endzone?? If the Dawgs D stops us there, the field goal is no guarantee.

Also, Charles Scott would still be running if the goal line hadn't gotten in the way.

I don't think it was because I think he was talking shite and that's what got him the flag.

I could be wrong, but I thought green tossed the ball in an underhand fashion into the stands. It looked to me like that was when the flag came out. I can't wait to get home to look at it on TIVO.

There's no way the penalty should have been called. Although I still think LSU wins the game, it would have been a totally different kind of win. Jasper would have had to hit a 40+ yarder between the hedges for the victory. It would've been a tough kick, he probably would have made it, but there is no question that the penalty changed the dynamic of the game.

This is what I thought after seeing the first replay. The ref throws the flag as Green walks past him. He must've thrown out the F bomb. New rules or not, many refs will flag you for language. They'll allow some stuff but not the F bomb.

That being said, I think the refs should have just let it go. He could have just warned him. It's not like he was taunting the LSU players. I know the new rule says you can't call attention to yourself, but I hope this doesn't become the norm. I'm all in favor of eliminating the taunting and poor sportsmanship that one sometimes sees on the field, but I think this was probably too tightly called.

And the make up call against Scott was equally ridiculous.

Although it does make you think considering what UGA had just done to ASU last year in terms of field goals. Not disagreeing with you, it just makes you think.

True, but I doubt he would have gotten the ball if we hadnt had such good field position

referees told media after the game that flag was thrown for turning to crowd and drawing attention to himself. Nothing about him saying "frick LSU" - get your facts straight.

I'm a huge Tiger fan but that was a horrible penalty. As was the make up against Charles Scott. SEC refs sucks.

so you are saying that if the guy was mouthing obscenities about LSU that he shouldn't get flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct? that's a perfect example of unsportsmanlike conduct.

I heard late last night the officials clarified the call later by saying it was something Green did after celebrating with his team mates.

Did it mess up your prediction that Georgia would smash LSU?

I agree. And yes it did change the game. It gave LSU great field position.

how do you know?
because the SEC already made a statement that Green did something to bring attention to himself. the penalty was not for poor conduct.

the only thing i could figure was the hugging and celebrating while on the field is why the flag was thrown. league does not want any organized on-field celebration
