Would you rather Ty Floyd’s first weekend game be today or a Saturday night against Vanderbilt? With everyone on pitch counts early in the year you have to throw a lot of pitchers. You can’t pitch your 3 best pitchers every game. We still have a game tomorrow and another on Wednesday.

CPM has to deliver this year, and losing a game today doesn't just throw the season in the trash.
Well so far he is 0/1 bc his "gut" call of keeping Hellmers at 3rd today cost us the game.

Blake Dean was a Smoke guy. So was Louis Coleman. Kind of important pieces for that 2009 team.

Why not pitch him in veitmeier’s spot in the 8th and let Veitmeier close? Why pull him for George? Why not let him try and get out of a bases loaded jam with one out if you’re looking for him to gain that experience? George has not been reliable in any of his three previous years. Bad management is bad management.

Blake Dean was recruited to pitch by Smoke. He was also never was coached by Smoke

I’m aware. He was Smokes recruit. And would not have been here without that initial recruiting. I don’t give smoke all the credit because he wouldn’t have played him that way. But he wouldn’t have assembled the 2009 like it was either or got them that far. My point just has to do with what players were there because of smoke who were crucial to the team. Blake is on that list.

If Chad Jones doesn’t rise up, PM is long ago gone from here

right, which is why i didn't say none of them were smoke guys. Just like Smoke's CWS teams were not all Smoke guys either. Or Nick Saban's 2003 team having some Gerry DInardo guys. Or his 2009 team having Mike Shula guys. And so on.
The question asked was "didn't he inherit most of those players from Smoke?" The answer to that question is still no. Most of them were not Smoke players. Coleman, Cain, Helenihi, and Bertucinni were the only contributors from the 2009 team who were recruited and played for Smoke Laval, and they only did for one year.

Chad Jones' 6.2 total innings pitched in 2009 have become one of the most exaggerated rant legends

You really think that cost us the game???? How bout the relievers walking the Falcons around the bases???? LSU still had the lead when Helmers was in the game....After Money is when the pitchers lost the game.
Posted on 2/21/21 at 5:18 pm to lsufball19
Pretty sure even Helenihi was a juco guy signed by Mainieri.

Timing is everything

He pitched three times in Omaha. His first appearance was against UVA. He came in with 2 outs in the 7th inning and one runner on first base. He walked his first batter and then induced a popup. Louis Coleman came in to start the 8th.
In Game 1 of the title series, he came in to replace Coleman in the 7th inning with LSU down 5-3. He pitched 1 inning, struck out one batter and didn't give up any runs.
In game 3 of the title series, he came into the game in the 7th inning with a 9-4 lead. He pitched 1.2 innings, and didn't give up any runs, striking out 2.
Those are solid appearances, but for someone to say something like but not for a situational middle reliever, Paul Mainieri would have been fired a long time ago is just hilarious. To insinuate that Chad Jones was the difference between us winning a national title or not is very much exaggerating what his role on that team was. I'll go out on a limb to say had he not also been a starter on the football team, no one would be talking about him 10+ years later, at least anywhere near to the extent he is.
