re: Add $1 to every LSU and Southern football game ticket to pay for BR to NOLA rail?

How much does he think a passenger rail costs? That would net at most $10,000,000 over the 4 years.
This must be the money they are using for their luncheons to discuss the plans to potentially have a passenger rail from BR to NOLA.

Does train start running at halftime to beat rush

Hell no. What are the Saints and Pels chipping in?

This guy actually believes a rail line can be built from BR to NOLA for what is going to be at most $5,000,000?
100,000 per game at LSU
25,000 at Southern and that’s being generous. (2022 average 19,844)
8 home games per season max. Most likely 7 as both play neutral site games often.
5 years
125,000 X $1 X 8 X 5 = $5,000,000
The average cost to build a rail line is about $1,000,000 per mile. You couldn’t even build a line from the Capitol building to OLotL

Stopped reading at Belle Chase Democrat.... They are only good at spending other people's money!!

Yeah that makes it way worse and way less money since it is only football tickets. I assumed it would be all sports.
This is a terrible plan for a rail line that o haven’t heard 1 real person excited about.

You would need to raise the price by 10/ticket for every athletic event, every rental cost would get a stadium tax and hotel taxes as well, plus get a massive grant from the government to subsidize it on the grounds of saving the freaking planet. It would require people that get on to go through a security checkpoint for weapons and drug sniffing dogs.
Then it would have to be high speed to be useful for work commute.

Amtrack doesn’t do this.
Again though, this whole idea is stupid and this politician should be laughed at for even proposing it.

I want to know how Belle Chasse elected a Democrat

I can think of 1,000 things this state needs more than a BR to NOLA rail.
Yeah. Like a 200mph bullet train from Mamou to Minden.

Two heavy freight railroads (CN, CPKC) already run between BR and NO. Passenger service would use one of those. So don’t worry about money for track construction. Money mostly needed for rolling stock and new stations at intermediate stops. Infrastructure. It’s coming.

Fix my roads before we put new rails

As I understand it, this is not all that feasible as the passenger train would have to take a back seat to freight trains when track conflicts come up. This causes delays.
And the current rails aren’t built for anything close to high speeds.

The saints and Pels play all their games in NOLA. There’s no reason for people to need a rail to Baton Rouge to watch the saints or Pels.
LSU and southern both play games in NOLA regularly. I’m not saying it’s worth it, but that’s the justification.
If we’re doing a rail it needs to be connected to cities aross the southeast to be successful. And it needs to be high speed and run well.

Hell no! The legislature Ned’s to leave ticket prices alone!

This is as dumb as the law proposed years ago that would require the LSU
AD to share any surplus with other state schools.

Read what you posted. It makes no sense. If anybody is riding the rail(sports related), it's going to be people from BR going to Pels (41 games a year) and Saints(8 or 9 games a year.) Making LSU and Southern fans pay for it is probably stupider than the idea of the rail.
Posted on 4/21/23 at 9:08 pm to LSUSkip
So nobody from the Nola area goes to LSU football games? Strange.
Posted on 4/21/23 at 9:13 pm to notiger1997
I know a lot about this, ask me anything.
Rail would run along the CPKC line currently there. There are not nearly as many trains along that route as you think.
