Just thinking about those Friday night starts and how you knew it was going to be a W. The kid went 23-2 his last two years. He was nasty.

He was a beast in that peak dead ball 2 inch seam noodle bat era.

Didn’t he have an 18 strikeout game one Friday night?

Felt like he never threw a ball. It was crazy.
Most control I've ever seen in a Tiger uniform.

If he walked a guy, the ump fricked up.

Reminds you of the old Ted Williams story. The catcher asks the ump why the last pitch wasn't a strike. The ump says, "If it was a strike, Mr. Williams would have hit it."

I recall being surprised if his first pitch wasn't a strike. He didn't fear throwing over the plate because his FB had so much movement to it

My favorite all-time player for LSU. I have never been more confident that LSU was going to win a game than when he was on the mound.

My brother grew up playing with him and he was ridiculous in little league even. I played with his brother and their dad used to make us hang sheet rock for his business. It doesn’t make sense how it could, but I swear doing that made us all better ball players

One of those losses was against florida where we lost 2-1 and pitched a complete game, if I remember correctly.

Probably best freshman pitcher we've ever had. His control was unreal, even as a freshman.

I remember that game. I think both of Florida’s runs were solo homers. One early, and the other a walkoff homer. And possibly our only run was a homer too, I may be mistaken.

It was such a joy to watch him fill up the strike zone and hit corners all night. Probably the best college pitcher I've ever seen in person

Are you talking about Austin? ... I was a year under Austin in highschool and I remember every time we played catholic; it was like getting a free clinic playing against him. We all thought he was the greatest player we had ever seen..... until my senior year when we were introduced to his freshman brother; courtesy of a CG 1 hit shutout.... those 2 kids were bar none the greatest highschool players that I had ever, nah; HAVE ever; seen play....
I remember hearing stories from a couple of
My friends who were friends with Austin, talking about how his dad was a dick. Of course that was the opinion of our immature high school minds; of course looking back now; we all know and can immensely appreciate, what we all thought was “dick”ish; was what it took to be the players they were and still are today. Their dad knew the talent his boys had and molded them into the best.

I played with Austin the summer after his freshman year when he was starting on a 17-18 year old travel team and batting 3rd for us. Kid had great hands from the start.
