Should we bring our own couch or is there somewhere we can pick one up for cheap?
You should probably bring one with you. All of our couches will be reserved for fire kindling dependent upon the outcome of the game.

what is the weather like that time of year?...I am thinking about working in a fly fishing trip...is there any decent fishing within a reasonable drive of the game?.....

Can you buy an RV parking pass in advance? Also, are there many cabs available in town, or will we be waiting 2+ hours if we call a cab?

Weather starts to get a little unpredictable towards the end of September. It could be anywhere from temperatures in the 80's down to the 60's.
The closest fly fishing would probably be in Elkins, which is about a 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive.
I don't personally don't know much about Fly Fishing, but I have a couple of sites for you.
This is a site solely for Fly Fishing
WV Angler
Here is the WVDNR web site with stocking schedule
Stocking
Also, since you're going to be fishing so late in the season it will probably be catch and release only.

If you are going to park in the Coliseum lot I believe you just pay when you get there ($40) and they will give you your pass. To check with the WVU ticket office, call 1-800-WVU-GAME and they should be able to get you some info about advance parking purchases.
I asked a friend about taxi service. He says it's not great, but it's better than it used to be. If you're thinking about partying downtown on Friday night before the game I would say the wait time for a cab would be 30 minutes to an hour.

I'm considering going to Morgantown for the game next fall but I hear horror stories of the way you ppl treat opposing team fans. What say you?
Everyone warned me not to go to the LSU game last year, because of the same type of "horror stories" about you guys.
After spending two glorious days warming up in NOLA, I attended the game in my WVU garb, and was thoroughly punished with kindness, hospitality, and great football talk.
I even told my wife about 45 min before the game that I was upset that I hadnt been tiger baited yet, but soon got my wish.
I have been to probably 60-70 games at Mountaineer Field and can count the bad incidents I have witnessed on one hand. Thats honestly why I ignored the haters, I figured you guys got a bad rap just like us, and I was right.
Cmon up, and bring some of that great cookin with ya!!

the WVU stadium is a nice facility and overall is more modern than Tiger Stadium....the area around the stadium with the parking situation and only one bar within a mile of the place....welllllll, that leaves a lot to be desired....
I had honestly never looked at our bar situation that way. Bars are for after the game and before the hotel. WVU fans will be tailgating before the game, not hanging out in bars.
You will see a tailgate on par with what the SEC has to offer. You will hear alot about the Blue Lot, but that is just one of several different lots to tailgate at. IMHO, the Blue Lot hasnt been the same since they stopped allowing RVs there anyway.
If you are looking to hang out in bars before or after the game, you wont have to look very far, Motown has a great bar scene. Many good ones referenced early on in this thread. I have not read all the pages yet, but the one really good bar that I didnt see mentioned is Crockett's in Star City. Crockett's is walking distance from most Star City hotels, and there is a little obscure road that will allow you to walk from the Ramada and what used to be an Econo Lodge to it and avoid driving.
I hope everyone who comes up has a great time.

My parents are both WVU grads from Point Marion, Pa. - My early years were spent in NY, RI and DC watching Major Harris, Renaldo Turnbull and JoPa copping out.
My oh, my. Point Marion is about a twenty minute drive north of Morgantown. If you are going to come up a day or so earlier, you really should make the drive.
There is a beer distributor in Point Marion called Korentus that has an excellent selection. Also, you will want to eat at Apple Annie's which is a great little family owned restaurant that serves great comfort food and has an unbelievable selection of homemaed pies.

Like mentioned Elkins is the area you'll want to check out, only problem is September won't be a good time to get your line wet. Try a mid-march trip for some really good trout fishing

Just going to bump and post a few thoughts
Like someone else said, there probably aren't too many other fanbases that are as similar as LSU and WVU. You all should have a good time in September. I remember Auburn fans constantly comparing the two of us the past two years.
Don't expect for MF to be like Death Valley, but having said that, we can bring the noise. For people that haven't been up here, MF was modeled after Commonwealth Stadium (UK). They look almost exactly alike. So imagine that (if you've been there) with an actual good football team and crowd.
Someone also said LSU would drink us dry like you did in Blacksburg. We're not Blacksburg. We're the #1 party school/town in the country. We pregame harder than most schools party.
As for food, northern WV has a huge Italian influence. So definitely hit up a few Italian places. Colasessano's and Muriale's are musts.
As for the PRT, for the LSU game, it'll probably carry about 25 to 30 thousand people (mainly students). Expect the lines to be long.
I think Brandon covered just about everything though.

O a few things to do in the state. Depending on how far you want to drive and how much you want to make a day or weekend out of it
West Virginia has the best white water rafting on the east coast and some of the best in the world. Late September is peak time for the best rapids due to dam release. Look into the New River and the Gauley River. These are about 3 hours south of Morgantown near Beckley.
Someone asked about fishing. WV has spectacular streams but September isn't the best time to go. It'll be hit or miss. The streams around Elkins might be your best shot. Elkins is only an hour and a half drive.
WV has some great golf resorts. The closest nice one would be Lakewood just outside of Morgantown next to Cheat Lake. The Pete Dye golf club in Bridgeport (30 minutes) is considered one of the best in the country.
Cooper's Rock is a good scenic place. But not much to do other than hiking. It's close though.
Snowshoe Mountain, Canaan Valley, Cass Railroad, Seneca Rocks, and Dolly Sods are all about a 2 hour drive. I'll let you look into those places if interested in outdoors stuff
And of course there's the Greenbrier. It's about a 4 hour drive but one of the nicest resorts in the country
If you're interested in gambling. Wheeling, Charleston, The Greenbrier, and Charles Town all have casinos
You can always look into things in Pittsburgh. My team, the Reds, are in town that weekend against the Pirates. And if there's a season, the Steelers may be playing as well.

They're the same ones that came on here with horror stories about y'all after their trip up to Morgantown.

O WVU is looking into selling beer in the stadium. Could be as early as this year. That's always an important thing

Dolly Sods is an excellent place to go. Watch out for bears and bring warm clothing. Camped up there last August and it was in the 30s at night. They have a ton of trails. It would take a week minimum to cover all of them. Spruce Knob (highest place in the state) is about 2 hours and has some camping. Cranberry Glades is another good place to go but it's a drive.
I'd have to say, I'd recommend looking into Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, Seneca Rocks, and Spruce Knob. They're all in roughly the same area and all a part of the Monongahela National Forest.
There are also some good caves in the area if you're into that (Seneca Caverns and Smoke Hole Caves)

Brandon, 'eer and the rest of you WVU types,
Just wanted to thank you for all the great info you've supplied as well as your ability to hang with us on The Rant. Gotta say, I'm impressed, as are a number of regulars here. I just hope the hospitality is still there when it's all over. Ya'll would seem a good fit for the SEC.

Thanks. Just trying to be as hospitable as possible. Didn't make it down last year but I heard good things. I would love to join the SEC but WVU is definitely a northern school (unfortunately) and we'd probably fit in better in the ACC.
You'll find that 90% of our fans are some of the nicest people you've met. But like we were warned of last year when visiting your place.....just know that you're visiting us, don't be hostile, and take the trash talking in stride because there are stupid people that could do stupid stuff. Most from NY and NJ
