Not a CPM apologist but I think a lot of the criticism, e.g., parsing every statement out of context, become childish and petty. It also distracts from and dilutes legitimate criticism. Namely, we haven't won a natty since '09. That's too long IMO.

In my view, CPM is auditioning to show me that he gives us a better chance to win championships than anybody else we could hire.

Today, he took a huge step backwards.

I'm no hater. I give him full credit. He took over when we weren't on top of the world. Got us back to Omaha in his 2nd season and won it all in his 3rd. 6 straight seasons of being a nat'l seed ('12-'17). Great work.

But I'm about winning championships. And this ain't getting it done. So show me Paul. Show me you're the man for the future. Beyond anyone else we could hire.

And if not, it's time for a forceful but graceful exit strategy.

FTR, what chafes my backside about this weekend is that he knew full well Hill was done before the McNeese St game. So you have to structure your pitching staff to maximize use of your best pitchers. He didn't. Example, Fontenot, IMO our 3rd best arm, got what 2 innings of work. Unless there's an injury IDK about, this is blunt inexcusable.

And I get it, baseball is a sport you have to look at with a broad lens and not get wrapped around the axle over a game or even a series. It's a long season. But we now have almost zero margin left to even make the tournament.

maybe a losing season is what is needed now to either finally push CPM out or implement some sort of team change going forward (grit, etc.). Either way its hard to watch, LSU has been so good for so long (not always the best) but almost always electric.

When he sounds whiny, hides in the back of the dugout, complains about player performance, argues for a certain lineup for certain reasons only to go back on it two weeks later because it turned out like everyone said it would, makes lineups based on wind direction, and isn’t sure who played where before they show up to campus...

Yeah, it’s time to go.

He's certainly not helping his cause.

This board ultimately needs to make their mind up. Too many posters call for his firing then win a couple of games and all of the sudden everything is on the up and up and looking great.

Then a game like today happens and again it’s back to letting him go and how the team hasn’t made progress. Then win a couple of games and back to Omaha conversations and keeping CPM as coach.

It’s exhausting and has been this way for well over 5 years now, if not longer.

College baseball coaches don't get fired too often. Look for Paul to stay as long as he wants.

Completely throwing away a winnable conference game when your record is 3-8 isn't doing that. Unless he has a legitimate reason for sitting the players that he sat today, I'm honestly not above firing him right now. There's just no excuse for what happened today outside of disciplinary action or players being so sick that they weren't able to play.

The thread title baited me into thinking there’d be some rich analysis/data present.

There are posters who only post when things suck. And posters who only post when things go well. So it may seem like the board is bipolar but it’s just there are dozens on each side who are vocal under only one circumstance.

I don’t think you can simply judge based on this result. I think now, it’s more about competing for championships then it is winning them. Just so much parity in college baseball now.

When it comes to actually winning, It’s all about the process, and for whatever reason, whether it be age or life events, has lost that edge in regards to running the program.

Recruiting—> roster building ——>developing ——-> motivating

If you have a solid process focused on attention to details, the results come.

All that being said, he has a cock diesel set of true freshmen right now. So it’s not all terrible. There is hope for the future whether it be with him or Dan McDonnell

I could care less what he sounds like or where he sits or if he doesn't know 100% of his players' history - IF we're winning championships.

And I won't care about these things with his successor - IF we're winning championships. Got it?

.

A lot of my sentiments as well. No margin for error and he mismanaged our pitching inexcusably. Lot of points deducted for this.

1) How much less could you care?

2) You should care. It’s this type of attitude and approach that gets reflected in his teams. Behaving like he does results in players who whine, put their head down, who are indecisive, and who aren’t fully prepared. We’ve seen that all year. Where do you think it comes from?

1. The talent isn’t sufficient ? Recruiting
2. The coaching aspects are not being met.
3. Other teams have better talent (recruiting)
4. In game management is not up to par ?

Something is amiss. Somebody needs their arse held to the fire to fix these deficiencies.

Sooner than later.

Wow. You know it’s bad when TigerLunatik wants to fire CPM mid season. Welcome aboard. Glad you have seen the light. Better days are ahead.

Gio, Hellmers, Hilliard, Bringing in Doughty over Travinski. There is no excuse to not play these guys unless they were being disciplined or injured.
