re: A Letter From Joe Alleva about night games.

He doesn't get it. Or he's proving he doesn't have the courage to get this thing looked at.
For starters, the letter is idiotic. There's no need to send it because people already know that. Even the ones who complain already konw what the deal is.
What would've been truly inspiring is if he would've at least told the fanbase that when it comes time to rewrite those TV contracts & Television Deals-and we're at 13, soon to be 14, so that's on its way VERY SOON-he will stand up with LSU's Administration and respectfully fight for the opportunity to include provisions for night game preferences.
CBS shows at least 1 prime-time night game per year, and this year it was Alabama Florida. There's no reason they couldn't have shown LSU vs. Auburn in that matchup, or LSU vs. Florida.
Before you say "Who wants to watch UF after they got their QB's hurt," I'll stop you by saying that they would've made the decision to air it at night before the injuries in that game occurred.
Auburn & Georgia, as well as Alabama & Tennessee are catered to religiously by this conference. There's no reason that LSU can't get preferential treatment re: shifting times for its games.
I can guarantee you that LSU vs. Auburn would draw better than another episode of "Numb3rs" or "The Mentalist" on CBS Saturday Nights.
But, Alleva did nothing with his letter. A meely-mouthed lip-service job to the problem many see. You make everyone pay for parking, ruin the traditional tailgating experience, and then don't even bother TRYING to stand up and fight for reworking the situation that we find ourselves in.
He may not win, but at least he could've told fans he'd stand up and try something.

Cable/Satellite only serves 70% of the market. Network TV serves 100% of the market. Which network is going to receive more ad revenue and more coverage?
Does it really matter when the revenues are split?

We have got to be the only fan base that cries about not playing at night. Why can't we just be happy that we're the #1 team in the fricking country.

Sure there is--they didn't fricking want to. And they pay billions of dollars for the right to choose. Why in God's name would they deal with the hassle of clauses and vetos and such without paying LESS money. And less money would mean less money for each SEC school, who would then politely--and rightly--tell LSU to go frick ourselves.

There is a reason. It has to do with their ratings and what time slot they can sell more ads

You're right. It's because we are the only fanbase that has built its fanbase's entire football experience as they relate to their team around playing at night.
Great call, James Brolin.

You're never going to get it...but here it goes:
CBS is a Network TV station. They reach every home with a TV in the US. Advertisers will pay more for this because they are reaching more viewers. CBS makes more money, they then have more money to offer the SEC for its contract.
More viewers, more money for LSU.

Maybe I missed where CBS was the only network vying for the right to air SEC games.....

Because we are undoubtedly the most alcohol obsessed fanbase in all of college football.

I know this....however, Slive seems to think that the SEC will have leave to revisit the contract in the next couple years.
And lets not get into the fact we signed this great "deal" only to see the PAC 12 sign a more lucrative deal for a shorter time period, after the fact.

Exactly. I hate day games because they mess with tailgating. But I understand that comes with the territory of being #1.

CBS, NBC, ABC, whoever, is not going to pay as much money for a contract that doesn't guarantee them they can broadcast their games whenever they see fit as one that does. The more power they are allowed, the more they will pay. Can you not concede this? If not, you're too stupid to continue with.
If you will concede this, then you can make the logical next step that them paying less to cater to ONE SCHOOl's needs--out of 12-14--would cost every school money. Why would any entity besides LSU go for this?

I know you think you know a lot, but I will guarantee to you that there are people who make a LOT of money and who have been doing this for a LOT of years who make decisions about programming at major networks. CBS shows what they show on Saturday night for a reason. And that reason is based on ratings. If they honestly thought college football at 7 pm EVERY Saturday night would make them more money, then that is what they would do. But ESPN is also a partner and ESPN has rights to Saturday night games as well, so CBS and ESPN and the SEC have to compromise.
What you doofuses need to realize is that the current TV model has been in place for a number of years now and it makes EVERYONE a ton of money...from the networks to the league to the schools themselves. The contract is NOT going to change merely because LSU wants night games and Alleva would be a fool to try to tinker with it or raise hell about it, mainly because he would get shot down handily. My advice: deal with it or find another team to root for.

Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio State, Auburn, Penn State, and Georgia all respecfully disagree. What a dumb statement.

And they need to quit jumping into threads with the same stupid shite that has been pointed out to be wrong over and over and over and over in every thread that comes up like this.
The facts have been laid out several times. We even had a thread stickied for a few days last week about it.
