The Eye of the Tiger at midfield just plain sucks.
I never liked the eye either.
It was only created because of the song, and I hated that too.

The Eye of the Tiger at midfield just plain sucks. It is the cheesiest logo in college football. We can all thank Nick Saban for resurrecting that monstrosity.
Wow - that's akin to not liking boobs.

No, not at all.
I love boobs, but I despise the eye.

so you would rather have that old crappy LSu logo at midfield or the state logo?

The groundskeeper that paints it says the eye started in the early 90's. Dude needs to get his facts straight. Not surprising, though, as he majored in "turf management" at Tennessee.

The eye made its debut on Oct. 15, 1983, for LSU’s homecoming game against Kentucky. The Tigers lost 21-13, and not long after, the eye lost its place on the field.
LSU stopped using the eye logo during Joe Dean’s tenure as athletic director in the late 1980s. During the years that the Eye of the Tiger logo wasn’t used, block LSU letters were used at midfield, and before that, a state of Louisiana with the school letters over it.
When Nick Saban took over as LSU’s head coach going into the 2000 season, he was shown the eye logo and insisted that it return to midfield.

this is plenty enough reason to retire the eye

I'm pretty sure I remember a Vanderbilt game in 1984 that had the eye. It was wet, the eye got trashed, and Dalton Hilliard went off.

Block endzone letters, alternating light/dark green field, eye of the tiger, numbers every 5 yards and white H-style goalposts would be the GOAT.

possible. I definitely saw it in 85 though. 84 would have been the earliest though. It started under Arnsparger.

maybe if we replaced the eye with the state of Louisiana with LSU in the middle covering the whole state then La. kids would regain some of their state pride and remember that saban is satan.
Saban wanting the eye is enough reason to change it.
I was never that big of a fan of it. La. with lsu inside would be my preference.
End zones one big LSU and the other Big TIGERS.
Or a Tiger Full Face in the two sides of LSU

1. really like the block letters the best
2. the columns are really cool. Thanks for the find
3. IDK why the Geaux font doesn't fill the endzone more.

Also our field was tinted dark green / light green / dark green every 5 yards. Also first time for our iconic "BLOCK LSU" style endzones which have always been my personal favorite.
can we bring this back!? add the eye of the tiger at midfield and it's be perfect! the "geaux" font in the endzones need to be given a rest...

quote:At the time, Saban said he was bombarded with requests from fans that the EYE be returned. It's the most unique and creative mid-field design in college football. Anybody that doesn't like it has mental problems IMO, but to each his own, huh. There's always a few in every crowd.
