I was there with my girlfriend sitting in the South end zone. Drove there in my SS 396 Chevelle. My father was in Pasadena CA attending his mother’s funeral and was impressed that the game was on national TV.

LSU - Ole Miss 1970.
The first few minutes of audio are bad until they got it ironed out. Here is the game in its entirety.

Archie had a broken left arm with a 7# cast. His 1st game back trying to play with it. Probably not that hard to stop him.
My only memory of that game is Estay sacking Manning gently. Kind of hugged him and lowered him to the ground.

They threw oranges at that game too? I was at the Fla. State game where they threw oranges. Didn't realize that they threw them in 1970.

That was a fun night! Three punt returns for TDs. #18 for Ole Miss was a warrior but was no match for the Tigers.

I remember when Casanova had an angle on Archie and could have taken him out. Instead he just pushed him out of bounds. I heard that Archie's mother wrote him a letter and thanked him for not killing her son.

That's true. That story is well-known.

Now I want to go watch the whole damn thing. I've seen the highlights before, but a great description OP.

There is a another YouTube video of the game with John Ferguson giving play-by-play.

Archie was on the field for 61 point beat down. Cast and all. They threw oranges that night I was there.

One of the best defenses LSU has ever had.

The 69 team held opponents to 38.9 yards a game rushing.
The 70 team won the SEC.
Could have won back to back SEC titles but LSU decided to go for the win instead of the tie vs Ole Miss in 1969!

I believe Estay sacked Manning for a safety in that game. No?
He also got Pat Sullivan for a safety that same season.

Yes. Estay sacked him in the end zone for a safety. I was there. After the sack Estay raised both arms and looked at the crowd as if to say we got that Mfer. An amazing night!

My parents and another couple went in on an RV together. They parked it where the natatorium is now. The adults slept the RV and the kids slept in a tent next to it.
I hate giving Ole Miss any excuses but Archie did have a huge cast on his arm.

When did Sulphur win the championship? I remember attending the game in Shreveport in 1968 and Sulphur lost to Woodlawn (Shreveport) led by Joe Ferguson, a future Arkansas QB star, NFL QB for the Buffalo Bills during the O.J. days, and later Arkansas QB coach.
