Currently 34 F in Athens, Ohio. Maybe warm blankets can be provided for the pantry shelter.

I’m very familiar with southeastern Ohio and the struggles in Appalachia, as I have lots of family from this area

If you could, fine sir, please enlighten us on why that particular area has stumbled upon hard times. Has this been relatively recent or has it been rough for a while? Is it similar to a lot of steel towns that were once booming and now have fallen down? If this is way off base, please forgive my ignorance. I'm genuinely curious/interested

Southern Ohio is rural. Not a lot of employment opportunities. This area was once a coal mining region. Once the mines shut down many communities have suffered. It’s a beautiful part of the country. Many good folks. What you all are doing is amazing! This is going to be such a blessing to so many people.

i have a really good friend who grew up in the area. When coal mining collapsed, so did their economy. Think about Appalachian coal mining country in Kentucky and you have the same situation...

Southern and Southeatern Ohio has been decimated by loss of jobs over the last 30 years. Factories and coal mines have shut down and to top it all off, to help ease the pain of these hard working Americans, the Pharmaceutical industry decided to make southeatern Ohio patient zero for the opioid crisis. Read about Ohio’s lawsuit against big Pharm. it’s been devastating!!! People that can move, have, and what’s been left behind is tragic. What’s interesting, is this region of Ohio are a proud people! They’re hard working, blue collar people that were shite on by their government over the years. Both of my grandparents used to work for a car battery manufacturing company that packed up and went overseas about 25 years ago. It was a great paying job with great benefits. My grandfather was 56 years old when he lost his job. In the subsequent years. I’ve watched his life slowly deteriorate over the years and I can tell you that many in that area have had similar outcomes. This is why this is such an amazing story. Y’all truly don’t know the impact you're having on these in need families and most importantly the children....innocent children!!! Again, I can’t thank LSU nation enough for the support. It’s emotional for me for sure. The timing of all of this makes it even more beautiful. Thank you to all who have donated! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Truly inspirational! Has this drive picked up momentum or is it about the same as this morning?

Not to get political but I wish the government would send money to places like Athens instead of foreign countries! American citizens shouldn't be suffering like this!

The drive is approaching $300,000, if it hasn’t hit that goal since I checked 45 minutes ago. We hit $50,000 around 6:00-6:30 this morning. It has exploded!

I’m thrilled at this response as it’s more than just food. What an outpouring of love for a community that just really needs it right now.

The food pantry posted this message on Facebook:

"Thank you Joe Burrow supporters and fans!

Athens County faces many challenges. Among them are poverty and hunger. We are the poorest county in the state and our food insecurity rate of 20% is the highest in our area and likely in the state. Low wage jobs and transportation issues add to the problem as well. Our all-volunteer organization has worked for 40 years to address hunger, an issue that continues to plague our community. We served over 400 families last month and those numbers hold steady.

For the fundraisers inspired by Joe Burrow, we are simply overwhelmed by the generosity of so many people! Our board will be having in-depth conversations about the best ways to use these funds. This is very new to us. We have never received an outpouring of financial support of this magnitude. We seek to be careful and deliberate in making these decisions, as the opportunities to further address food insecurity and hunger are numerous and the possibilities are nearly endless. If you have tried to contact us, and haven’t yet received a reply, please be patient. We have been swamped by the many messages and phone calls we have received.

On behalf of the board and our clients, merely saying thank you for this amazing show of support for our work cannot accurately reflect the depth of our appreciation! But those are the words we have so THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!"

This organization seems to be a well-run, all volunteer group and truly deserving. I'm so proud of our fans.

Buckeye - I’m currently in contact with 5 local PTOs about a fundraiser for school supplies, coats, etc. Would you be able to point me to an OSU site similar to TD I could use to reach out to your fan base?

I have a link to Athen’s County Children’s Services for the Santa Tree Wishlists

Looking at the Athens Children's Services website, it appears that the Amazon Wish Lists have all been fulfilled. Just wow! There is still a link for monetary contributions, but

"All 1,200 + and counting children that signed up through the 2019 Santa Tree Project have been shopped for! "

Tiger Nation is doing incredible work today.
