More than likely we will be running a 4-2-5 most of the time. Especially with a D Line Heavy HC and and DB Heavy DC. Also based on Talent we have more talent at the DLine and the DBs. LBs have depth issues. I’d expect improvement overall in that room though.

Who will be your 5 starting DBs? To me the only sure fire starters are Stingley and Ricks.

Flott and award will se the field. Hampton and Harris will likely get playing time also. It’ll be hard to keep Sage and Davis off the field at some point. The DBs are going to be fun to watch. Our DC is know for his development of DBs. We already had the best in Raymond. DBU. Who are your 5?

CB1 Stingley
CB2 Ricks
Nickel Ward/Flott
S Sage Ryan/Derrick Davis/Todd Harris/Mo Hampton

Without knowing the packages, hard to say, but I don’t see a scenario where Sage is kept off the field. I give Ward the nod over Flott, but I think you’ll see a lot of shuffling depending on matchup.

Sage should definitely be in every play. Someone that versatile should be an instant impact.

We have got to get back to that lightning quick box safety like Adams and Delpit to help these LBs cover the run game and help set the edge better. Not sure if that is Ryan, Davis, or Hampton. I feel that Harris is going to stay a deep safety

Is Evans returning? Never saw it officially.

I won’t be surprised if he has a good year. He transferred late and got thrown to the wolves.

With a year in the system and a full off season I bet he surprises people.

This sounds promising. Is Jones putting on any weight also?

One thing to note is that Derrick Davis is an early enrollee, while Sage Ryan is NOT.

As rare as it is to see true freshmen start day 1, it’s even more rare to see them start day 1 without being early enrollees. I think it will be hard to keep Sage Ryan off the field, but I still suspect it will take some time for him to be mentally prepared for big time SEC football.

My guess is that it’s Harris and Hampton at safety week 1, with Davis getting snaps but not starting. Once you get to week 6, anything could happen if Sage and Davis show up and compete.

Your two outside CBs are obviously Stingley and Ricks.

Ward, Flott, and McGlothern are the most interesting to me. I’m curious to see if the staff rotates all of them at nickel, or if they try to separate them on the depth chart between nickel and outside CB.

You could make the argument that it’s better to have at least one guy who is primarily focused on being the backup to Ricks/Stingley so that they can get more practice reps in that spot.

Safeties and Corner Backs are all DBs.

Freshman DBs have done well in the SEC lately. Most of them end up playing Nickels and moving into CBs or safety.

Some of you are sleeping on McGlothern. I thought he showed some heart & competitiveness when he got his chance late in the year. I like his height too

Delpit was an early enrollee though. So were Stingley and Ricks.

I’m not saying it’s impossible for Sage Ryan to be a day 1 starter. Just that it’s extremely rare for a true freshman who enrolls in the summer.
