Nick Saban 5.5 million
Mack Brown 5.16 million
Urban meyer 4.3 million
Bob Stoops 4.5 million
LANE KIFFIN 4 million

Les Miles 3.75
The late Bobby petrino 3.635
Kirk ferentz 3.65
Gene Chizik 3.5
Chip Kelly 3.5
Gary Patterson 3.46

To get a guy as accomplished as Les you have to pay 4+

Do I agree with his raise? No. Absolutely not. The school is in a budget crisis and it continues to set a tone that LSU cares more about football than its true mission-education. However. He brings a ton of money to the school and Les' resume relative to his peers-1 NC multiple SECCG appearances and conference titles Avg >10 wins- says he derserves north of 4 million

And not a single penny of that $4MM/yr will come from the education budget.

Why the hell do you people not get this... The budgets are mutually exclusive... Actually that's not even true, LSU Athletics gives money to the university, so the school would be in worse shape without LSU Football

The Education Department is in a budget crisis. The Atheletic Department is not, infact it's giving money to help balance budgets in the education department.

No shite. However the TAF etc. could set the tone and donate more back to the school and pay for 2-3 profressors salaries with that same amount of money that pays for Les' contract.

And there is a DIRECT correlation with successful athletic programs and higher enrollment numbers/new applications for enrollment.

How much money does the athletic department get from the LSU general fund?

Uh yeah, They paid for sidewalks on campus and gave money to teacher's salaries. They also financed the whole Cox place. Can't bitch about sports when they make all the money.

And a significant sum of the money he creates through football success wil be donated to the school.

Damn certain he's better than Kiffin, Brown, and Stoops. Still don't think he needed the raise THIS year. If nothing else, on principle. He can't keep using other gigs for raises.

The raise doesn't bother me it's the extension. Things could go to shite much less we fall behind A&M and we would be stuck with him for at least five more years. It just dont see this thing as a positive for thuniversity. Maybe my disdain for contract labor is clouding my judgement.

Anyone with any brains knows Miles compensation does not affect LSU's expenses a penny.

I know that. They could also donate that same $250,000 ie Les' expected raise and that pays for 2-3 profressors salaries. Its all about public perception. LSU athletics is forever associated with LSU's education. If the university on one hand continues to fire good profressors while on the other hand ups Les' salary to over 4 million what does that tell the general public.

It actually reflects poorly on the state government (you know the people who own the university)... Why does it reflect poorly on TAF and LSU Athletics when they don't bail out Jindal and Co. for fricking up more than once?
