"LAISSEZ LES BON TEMPS ROULER"-- let the good times roll!

What redemption for Jamie Howard, who had suffered indignities untold on The Plains just a year earlier!

Gerry Dinardo... planted the seed which made winning Tiger football again the norm, with his insistence on proper sartorial eloquence in Death Valley.

Even though I didn’t see the game with my eyes, Jim Hawthorne on the radio sitting in a dark room I remember it well. My dad was given 1 ticket and I begged to let me watch in the Pmac or find a ticket. He left me home scared we wouldn’t find another ticket. My mom left me my room lights off dark and the radio. A different time, not every game was easily accessible on tv. Nix getting sacked for a safety was unreal. How loud the crowd was magical. What a night.

One of the top 5 loudest games I’ve attended.

I was in North Georgia wildlife management area fly fishing with a buddy at the time. I drove around until I got WWL on my car radio. We started a fire, set up camp, and I woke up the mountains when we made the final interception. Brown liquor was flowing through my veins at that point. The best part of that game is when Nix stops in the end zone because a whistle was blown in the crowd and gets sacked for a safety. Learned about his later.

I just laugh at these young bucks that call us gramps and boomer etc...

Next time they blink they'll be in there 50s and not laughing so loud at those jokes.

On that safety, didn't Nix say he thought he heard a whistle?

He didn't just think he hear it. He absolutely heard it because I did too. I remember that play and my dad and I both saying we didn't think the safety would stand because the ref blew a whistle.

First SEC game for me in the student section as a Freshman. The "whistle gate" game. That whistle definitely came from the stands.

A somewhat forgotten game in LSU history but the atmosphere was as good as any. Redemption for Jamie Howard after the nightmare the year before.

I was 12 yrs old. Remember the build up to the game. Dinardo had me completely sold. It felt like we had the game won before it was ever played.

Wasn't Dinardo responsible for getting LSU Games back on WWL radio.
Back in the 60's, I listened to LSU play on WWL, while standing Watch (Navy) in Northern California. Listened as well while stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
I suppose Blockhead Broadhead dropped it

Yes was there and was packed in like sardines on hot sultry night was really loud and as fate would have it didn't he almost throw another one but AU corner dropped it? But Twillie pick was totally beautiful that ball looked like 6 written all over it
Gerry D did bring back the magic but was every other week it seemed!

while these numbers sound ridiculous by today’s standards, not many coaches were getting enormous contracts back then.

LSU used to have a goofy rule that the football coach's actual base salary coudn't be higher than the highest paid professor.

While those guys weren't making a ton of money, was a bit more than listed there with a lot of off the books "incentives." Gerry was probably taking in close to a million a year by the time he was let go.

Arnsparger was hired by Broadhead, by the way. So was Archer technically, I guess.

No he threw a pick going toward the SEZ but they caught the DB before he could run it all the way back down the west sideline.

I was 7 years old and that safety on Nix is still burned into my brain

I’ve never seen a QB freeze up like that since
