He has made a reference to the 4th down decision in the Kentucky game. You can tell it’s eating at him. I can only imagine. We are just fans on here and I still think about it some. I can’t imagine in his position what that must do to him. But to help him erase it, let’s fill up that stadium and accept the challenge of eclipsing the noise made in Neyland stadium In the earlier Bama-Tenner game. He mentioned that too. GEAUX TIGERS!

As I posted about this: These are the kind of decisions that can drive a close to push beyond excellence

He may have needed that moment to be himself

Which also means you’re getting his full bag of tricks the rest of the year, too.

Idk if I was just thirsty for something coming off the BYE, but that was probably my favorite Monday press conference of the season so far.

A few actually good questions from local media & I chuckled a bit at the itinerary amendments he recommended for the fans.

Im thinking that as well. Because since that decision, he’s coached like the Lane Kiffin we were all expecting when we hired him against Mississippi State and Auburn. A fast paced creative offense that also took chances on 4th downs with great play calls.

He knows that consistently being ready to be on the winning side of those decisions is the difference between good and great. He knows what a missed opportunity that call was but fortunately is also aware that he's going to get a lot more chances to get it right.

Of course its eating at him, we would be ranked top 3 minimum right now and damn near a playoff lock had we won that game.

It’s been such a whirlwind since he was hired, I felt all along that this year was going to be a huge adjustment period that everyone just needed to get through.

The cloud of the OM game hanging over the entire offseason is something that can’t be quantified imo.

And it wasn’t as simple as ok now that game is over now we can move past it. I think the hangover dragged into the Kentucky game and being in another rabidly hostile environment like that so soon was almost like PTSD for him and the team.

Now having been over a month out and getting a win at Auburn I do think the team is finally able to psychologically turn the page and get back into a more normal routine and game day experience.

Even the hostility in the media and from opposing fanbases like whenever he is mentioned on gameday has started to die down, which it was always going to. The vision that led to his decision is becoming clearer and soon the Kiffin hysteria will fade into mostly background noise and not the story of the season like it was early on.

Knoxville is going to be a similar environment and almost certainly at night, but I think we are going to see a much more unaffected group than the first half of the season when the team was still figuring out who they were and how to play together.

That’s not to say we win out, these next three are going to be a gauntlet for sure, but mentally we will be in a much much more stable place than we were for those early road hellscapes.

His 4th and 2 call to Trey'Dez vs Auburn broke them right then and there.

Balls.

are you DOYA2 alter? I'm surprised he wasn't starting this thread. I think he is still crying. This is insanity. Let the shite go and go win the rest of our games. They should have never made it that close, and it wasn't a terrible decision when it was made. You can second guess after the fact all you want, but many knowledgeable people think he made the right decision, with the wrong defensive sets.

We’ve played damn near perfect since with our backs against the wall so at least it’s lit a fire under them

Good thing he doesn’t post here though. He’d get roasted for not getting over it

Kiffin is the one that keeps bringing in up, which is why OP started the thread.

Listen to the press conferences, Kiffin is huge on data and that is a data point that has clearly made an impression on him and his analysis and decision making process from that point forward has factored it in heavily.

Lane is an extremely competitive and obsessive football mind…. Yes, it is eating at him…he holds himself to an extremely high standard, and realizes he has a huge goal — whether he states it or not. His goal is to win not only every game, but every down. The “bad” downs that cost him a game W eat at him.

At least he can recognize and admit a mistake and learn from it. We have had coaches who were too hard headed to do that. Saints and LSU. Plenty of them.

Maybe that call wins the game if successful, the defense lost that game.BBs defensive calls lost that game.
