I could've shown you oldtimers who would've said that Gus Tinsley or Doc Fenton were greater players than Cannon. The game has evolved and it's a subjective thing.

Tommy Casanova introduced me to Gaynell Tinsley one day, though Tommy referred to him as "Mr. Tinsley." It wasn't until later that it dawned on me that I was standing there chatting with two of the greatest Tigers in history. It was a sweltering day, but Mr. Tinsley was wearing a suit and tie, very, very dapper for an older man. Kids kept coming up to Tommy for autographs, but he told them they should be asking for "Mr. Tinsley's" autograph.

that is awesome, I've only met Tommy a handful of times, but I've been in close proximity quite a bit(lived nearby, LSU stuff,) I've never seen anything but a class act

The fact of the matter is that you can only judge players on how they performed against their peers. The game, the players and the coaching/supplements/regimens are constantly changing.

You need to learn to credit the attributes & success all athletes that have played in any era as 20 years from now young fans will be discounting the accomplishments of Kevin Faulk, TM7, Dorsey, etc because of the same issues the young fans are bringing up now.

Cannon, Ted Williams , Steve van Buren, Jimmy Taylor, Tommy Casanova, Johnny Robinson, Charles Alexander, Jerry Stovall, etc were all Alltime Greats just as Faulk, Bert Jones, Glen Dorsey, TM7, etc. were.

Hell, this thread has gone through several pages and no one has even mentioned the best WR, OT, Center, LB, DE, OG, CB. And we've had some incredible players at all of these positions.

Kevin Faulk played against the best players regardless of race

How many Latinos did he play against? How many Malaysians? If Malaysians take up football in the next century, and make up 50% of the rosters, does that mean Faulk was not legit?

Kevin Faulk hands down. I remember watching him as a kid... it was always great to watch him run. Also, mathieu was good, but getting suspended/dismissed and playing 2 seasons doesn't constitute "greatest ever". Faulk finished his college career. Could have gone pro early. Stayed all 4 years.

Faulk is an example and leader. Role model and one of the greatest if not the greatest to play in purple and gold. One of the best backs in the SEC history. And patriots all time all purpose yard leader and return leader.

had he played one more season, he would have had the FBS record for most forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. Would have won the defensive player of the year award two consecutive times and would have been a two time all american. He could have been the soul player to help us get back two the NCG for a consecutive season. With Jeremy Hill starting against UF, and us having Mathieu, we go undefeated in back to back seasons. One addiction put him from being a just a top 10 legend, to a possible #1 or #2 player in LSU football history.

I'm going to go off topic with this part, but bear with it.

I remember how we talked about how natural he looked his junior year in spring camp and how he was going to be the catalyst for a repeat appearance in the SECCG and NCG. It's almost as bad as Perriloux setting the QB station back several years. Lee and Jefferson learning on the bench for two and three years would have gave us exactly what we needed to go to the NCG in 2010. We barely lost to Auburn/Newton, and that was because we couldn't throw to save our life. We also lost to Arky at the end of the year that knocked us out of a BCS bowl game. If we had Bama's luck, we'd have a dynasty right now, but we don't. I just hope we can start 2015 as the setting for a dynasty, or better yet with a little luck, 2014.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. No way BAMA makes that drive at the end with TM7 on the field. They may have made it down the field some other way but call me delusional, I don't see them making completions over mathieu's head on that final drive.

Florida for the most part just seemed to be a clusterfrick of a game to me.
