That Arizona St game was crazy.

LSU was trailing 17-7 to start the 4th quarter and ASU was attempting a 47-yd field goal. LSU blocked the FG and returned it for a TD, then proceeded to score another 21 points in the quarter. Final score was 35-31. That is insane.

If I remember correctly, much like the Brad Wing fake, the staff saw something on film. They instructed the punters on what to look for and, if they saw it, go for it as an audible.

I was at the ASU game and could not believe it when the fake was run. I said to myself, "What kind of coach do we have here?!?"

Umm, Les didn't call for a fake there.

It's more in line with Triumph Tiger. Arizona St left the gunner uncovered in favor of an all out blitz. The punter simply threw the ball out to a wide open "receiver". There was no call from the sideline to run a fake punt.

And how many of those were in the last two minutes? There is a reason we were referred to as the cardiac cats back then. Fun watching Skylar run!

I lived in l.a. not la so I didn't get to go.
but, I was sooo pissed that tn was afraid of hurricane rita and moved it to Monday nite.

by then, the lsu football team (mostly 18-19 yr olds) were fatigued and tired, b/c most were sharing their apts w/ family (remember fats?).

Louisiana had just endured a catastrophe of epic proportions.

and then lsu (clm) claimed the next 10 games!

the boat: is this where you gave up on clm?
was it the tn game '05 that turned you into a negative miles guy? why do you remember that game so well?

just askin'

Wow. What an impressive list! This is the kind of stuff that the SEC network needs to do a story on. CLM is a boss!

Every other conference fan (especially butthurt Big Ten putses) will claim since 85% of those wins were against SEC teams it just shows how weak the SEC is since those teams obviously just rolled over.

Choupique is correct. You won't find a bigger Les fan than me, but there was no fake punt called. It was a strategy they went into the season with. The punter and gunners had carte blanche to take that play if it was available. Arizona State went all out on the rush, and they took it. IIRC Les said afterwards that, while they had the green light, he hadn't anticipated doing it out of his own end zone.

This play really speaks to one of Les Mile's strengths. He puts way more trust in his players than most coaches do. It shows in plays like this, and in the players' council, and in the players' spirit that allows them to win so many competitive games in the fourth quarter.

Thanks for the link. I watched the entire 11 minutes.

Amazing how many points were scored in that 4th.

It was good to watch again, I haven't seen it in years. This was a great vindication game after Saban's loss in the bowl game and all of the talk and speculation during the summer.

Also, where is that special teams coach now?
