lol there aren’t a lot but certainly more than those two.

You left out the incoming JUCO. Unless they all sign pro deals, Reeves seems to be held in high regards by Coach Johnson.
The only "lock" is Milam. He is going to make everyone compete.

I think Ratphuc Hobley might emerge as a midweek starter

Dickinson is more of a lock than anyone not named Jared Jones if he comes back. He’s goin to shine

A lot of people are forgetting about Beck. There are suddenly a lot of options. More options than there are positions. Sounds familiar. Not as much proven star power as the '23 lineup, so I can't make an actual comparison yet, but there is big time potential with lots of competition.
Much different feeling than I had going into this past season. As inconsistent as the lineup was, it actually exceeded my expectations in the end. I had very little confidence in more than about three guys, at the start.

Matthew graduated a few years and you’re thinking of either Bain or Peterson if we’re talking about pitchers in the lineup

Do you people even follow the baseball team? He is obviously talking about Dalton Beck

You think Brown is a lock? I like how he came on at the end of the season, but I’m surprised to see you say that he’s a lock to start

Yes…unless he replied to the wrong guy

Dalton Beck... I wouldn't forget that two guys who graduated three and six years ago, respectively, are no longer on the team. And as for Peterson, he was never in the lineup. He just had that at bat that everyone remembers. And his last game here was 5 years ago.

It would appear that he was talking to me, unless someone in here actually brought up Matthew Beck. I actually thought he was talking to someone else at first, because I was confused as to what he meant, until I read your reply to him. Then I realized what was happening. I was definitely not talking about Matthew.

Jay making everyone compete sounds good in theory. However, Neal started in the outfield over several OF that hit over 300 in the fall.
It is well known by now Jay has his favorites.

It was a joke. Apparently a bad one.

I don't think it's uncommon for any coach to sometimes play favorites, but I never got the sense that Neal was a favorite. Jay gave him a shot in the outfield because, despite what a few might have done in the fall, it wasn't carrying over to the season. Neal is a guy with a lot of upside, so why not? When it didn't work, he didn't play much the rest of the season. Other guys started to step up.
That's how a competition should play out, in my opinion.

With Neal it was more about trying to get return on NIL investment than favoritism. A lot was invested in Neal and Kling.

I don't disagree. I think it with Neal, the OF experiment was because of his injuries and perceived "bat". Listening to Johnson's interview after the season, I think he has had an awakening. I think he ushered some guys to the portal, and challenged the others to compete.
