I don't see how Hilliard projects at the next level. Paul Bertuccini 2.0.

If we can get somebody in here that could get Hilliard to figure out how to throw strikes with his breaking stuff more consistently I think he could have a pretty decent year and maybe make some money.

I agree 100%. A lot of our hitters in the past have done well getting instruction outside of campus. It never hurts to have a fresh set of eyes and someone new working with you.
Not just fresh eyes but you have an environment to work on things or tinker with something new without so much pressure to win. You can’t really do that much during the season for fear of it throwing everything completely out of whack. Now in the case of Millazo it couldn’t have been much worse, but most of the time it isn’t so extreme.

LSU released their list of summer baseball assignments:
LSU Sports dot net

I will make changes in the OP as necessary. I will leave the ones not listed on LSUsports.net until I see for sure guys aren't going to those places.

What do you think the likelihood of Selvidge getting to campus is? Haven’t kept up much with baseball recruiting this year but a lefty throwing 94 with three pitches sounds like an exciting prospect.

Selvidge is still rated high enough in most places to be considered either a first day or top 5 round pick. I don't know which way he's leaning or anything, but just his rankings make me worry about him going pro.

Lansville seems to be sliding in the rankings making me think it's possible we get him. He could be a potential weekend starter.

Not really relevant side note: Reese Lansville (Cale's older brother and pitcher at UALR) is on the same summer team in Alaska as catcher Joe Kiel (Hunter Kiel's younger brother from UAB).

Pearson, Crews, and Dugas all on the same summer team.

And Holt.

Dugas is showing on their roster, but not on the LSU story.

I don't know if the LSU site story isn't giving all of the assignments or if Dugas isn't actually going out for summer ball. But the story was missing a few assignments that I had found and conflicted with the information we got about Cranford in this thread. Cranford isn't on the roster the LSU site said he would be, so I haven't changed his status. Drost and Doughty are showing on their roster.

LSU’s lineup is going to be stacked next year. Reminds me of the 08 to 09, 14 to 15, and 16 to 17 transition.

It looks like one of their other top hitters is also an OF. If he actually goes, I wonder if Dugas will play 2B all summer.

I think it would be good for him and LSU for him to play on the infield as much as possible this summer.

We know he can be serviceable to good in LF. I still don't think he ever proved he couldn't play on the infield. Getting him reps there in a low pressure environment could only help him.

ETA: In general I think it would be good to use summer ball to expand guys defensively and push them up the defensive spectrum if possible. Morgan in CF, Safford playing all over the IF and OF, Bianco behind the plate. Why not try it?

Pearson: 11 games, 39 ABs, 15 hits, 15 runs, 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 5 RBIs, 6 walks, 3 HBP, 10 strikeouts, 12 stolen bases, .385 average

With wood…that’s crazy. The stolen bases stick out more than anything to me.

Or, maybe Crews catches all summer.

Back when he was coming out of HS there was talk on a FanGraphs chat of a few big time prospects being asked to work out for scouts behind the plate and declining to do so. The context made me think he was one of them. He has catching in his background, and has even worked behind the plate at LSU. But he doesn't seem too eager to try it out.

That being said, he could go full Buster Posey and shock everyone.

Correct. I was really just stirring the pot. I don't think he'll catch.

This isn’t LSU related so a new thread would need to be on the MSB. But I figured most in here will be watching so:

Every Angle, Every Game of the CWS

UmpCam on ESPN3: ESPN will offer an UmpCam presentation for the CWS providing a complementary viewing experience to the traditional telecast with every pitch shown live from the high-definition camera attached to the mask of the home plate umpire.

Corner Cam: An ultra-high resolution 180-degree camera in the outfield corners.

Dead Center Field Cam: Camera located in center field providing true inside/outside pitch location.

Drone: ESPN’s drone footage will provide low-flying dramatic aerials throughout each game.

In each of those years we had ace pitchers on our roster. Unless we get a stud transfer or one of Lansville, Selvidge, or Kudrna pans out as a Friday night guy.

That’s the difference this team won’t have an ace.

Maybe TV can bring someone with him or find one in the portal for next year
