To confirm, if Rice wanted this game to be played at Home, our beloved Tigers would have had to play this game at Rice... Or when this was negotiated, it was in the contract that LSU will not be playing at Rice? This is LSU, the National Champions, having to play Rice where ever they choose? This isn't UCF..

The NCAA considers NRG to be an alternate home stadium for Rice. LSU probably insisted on the game being at NRG though Rice would have put it there regardless as they do whenever they host a big name out of conference team. Why would Rice host it in their on campus stadium, it's sufficient for most CUSA match-ups but it doesn't have modern amenities that NRG has which is only a few miles away from campus and like I said the NCAA counts that as a home stadium for Rice. Its like just over a decade ago LSU played Tulane in New Orleans. There's a built in fan base plus a fertile recruiting ground.

1. It's a 2 for 1... 2 home games in Tiger Stadium and 1 at whatever venue Rice chooses
Why on Earth would LSU ever agree to this with Rice?

An absolute Joke. What UF did with UCF makes sense... UCF has made some noise in recent years... a 2-1 with them isn't ideal, but I can see why UF agreed to it... LSU doing a 2-1 with Rice is laughable. Overall, we always have one of the toughest schedules in College Football.. I don't mind a game or 2 of this quality.. Allows development of younger players, etc. However, LSU should never leave Tiger Stadium to play Rice or any team even remotely in the same realm as Rice's football program. It's laughable.

There are a lot more alumni here in Houston than in Tennessee so we do get some consideration sometimes.

Pitiful decision to settle on Rice . I’ve gone to every early season Tx game. Not even considering this one.

Seems as though the only people who like this are Houston residents.. because its a short drive to watch LSU, they aren't realizing how pathetic it is that LSU agreed to play Rice at their "house".

Why is this causing you and others to throw a bitch fit?

The amount of butthurt over playing a road game at Rice is what’s laughable. Not the fact that we scheduled it.

Because it’s hot AF in Tiger Stadium in September regardless of kickoff time.

Not sure butthurt is the right word.. More so confused as to why a program like LSU would schedule a 2 for 1 with one of the worst, if not the worst D-1 program. I think we could do better... Do you disagree?

IFIFY

FWIW...I will be making a 6 hour drive to attend the game. While Houston isn't my favorite city, I don't get the pearl clutching over this.

Seems to me that we get quite a few more players from Houston than Tennessee. We need to play sometimes where the players are.

And yes, I drove to Nashville from Houston last year. Great trip

Recruiting? That's it? Rice at neutral site for the sole purpose of recruiting is just odd

The largest out of state alumni group is the Houston area. There are as many top level players in the city of Houston as the whole state of LA. This also general university recruiting as well.
LSU - Rice at TS would be a $25 ticket and 11:00 am SECN and a 30% no show. I hope for nuetral site we getting more than that...

Rice is LSU most common opponent aside from teams that are/were in the SEC

I could take it or leave it. LSU has played Rice 56 times, more than Auburn and several SECE teams. I think keeping a healthy/friendly relationship with Rice is worthwhile for the sake of furthering the LSU brand in Houston. My guess is most Rice alums have a more competitive team they cheer for, much the way many Tulane and ULL fans are also LSU football fans. Might as well have the Rice people 'like' LSU instead of TAMU.
