Late addition from Fla. his coach was fired or something and he switched to LSU late. Ask Project as he has more info on him . In all indications he looks special as a incoming FR.

Last year we pulled studs in Walker, Hess, Watson, and Smith!
This year I'm thinking Cabrera, Storz will be studs along with hopefully a stud catcher behind the plate.
Way to early predictions for 2018.
Pitching:
1. Gilbert
2. Hess
3. Storz
4. Peterson
Reliever:
5. Newcomer or someone steps up.
Closer:
6. Bush
*maybe by the postseason Peterson or someone moves into the rotation so Hess can come out the bullpen*
I think Storz will be a Friday/Saturday Ace!

I think the correct spelling of the pitchers name is Labas. My mistake earlier.

I don't get the obsession with this. Yes he was great out of the pen this year but he was decent as a starter early in the year during midweek games and I'm sure he would've improved if the necessity for him in the pen hadn't come up.

I want my three best pitchers starting on the weekends plain and simple. Putting him as closer you run the risk of never pitching.

Florida series during the regular season he wouldnt have pitched until the Sunday game. Do you really want your best pitcher only coming in after you already lost the series?

Could play a big factor if he doesn't sign.

Cabrera is known for his bat....but he's a lefty who can touch 90 with his fastball. Good change up and decent curve ball. He could help out of the pen in situations. Probably never happen, but he is a good pitcher.

Before the walker injury I might have suggested that Hess could potentially fill a hybrid role. Tentative Sunday starter but could close a game if really needed. With walker out I don't see how he could be anything other than a starter. Before the walker injury you could potentially have one of either Gilbert or Hess to bolster the pen. With then both all but definitely moving to starting roles its going to really hurt our bullpen depth. Also we won't get Norman back either. If Bush isn't a starter he may be a key piece, especially as a lefty. Beck showed some promise too. Bain seems like he could be good but he didn't seem to really be trusted by the coaching staff late. Other than maybe an inning late in the first osu game I don't remember him getting more than a few innings total in the whole postseason. Peterson hopefully can develop into a nice long reliever of even a 3rd/4th starter.

Sorry for the wall of text. Kind of a rambling thought

Hess is a starter, give it up. The only reason he was even in the bullpen this past season is because he was a good arm, and we were lacking good arms in the pen.

ETA: Had Walker not been so steady on Sundays, Hess would've been in that spot. Hess was brought in to be our next Friday night power arm, ala Ranaudo, Gausman, Nola, Lange...

Feduccuia will likely start at Catcher next year because of his outstanding defense. Doolittle will get there but he's just not ready to be an everyday player at that position (to LSU's standards and that's ok).

The infield should see a mix of Smith, Slaughter, Templet, Reid, with additions such as Broussard. I would really like to see them work Storz at 1B if he's not a clear weekend starter but we'll see how he wants to make that work.

Outfield should be good next year, Duplantis and Watson return, it looks like Breaux will stick with the team for the time being which is a plus and you insert Cabrera who won't put up Bregman 2013 numbers but is as a consistent hitter as they come.

You add Bryce Jordan to the lineup, which will be a big boost.

I like the amount of arms they brought in with this class. You have to think they want to keep Taylor Peterson and Cam Sanders at the back end of the bullpen which will allow for Hess and Gilbert to start building up stamina to become starters.

You then have Veitmeier, Schroer, Storz, Labas who all can reach the 90's, even if they aren't all-sec as freshman they'll eat up some innings.

All in all losing Walker hurts but it was on the back of people's minds and expected, the 2018 team won't be experienced but will be very talented. The position players in the '16 class and the pitchers from the '17 class should set up for LSU to make another deep run in 2019.

We're going to have to get used to 5 and 6 innings starts with a lot of relievers being used.

Don't forget about midweek games that may be by committee again for most of the season.

Cabrera has a pretty weak arm too, so if it's between him and Duplantis in RF, I guess go with the vet and move Cabrera to LF

Never seen the kid play, but Perfect Game says he has a pretty good arm, not elite, but throws in the upper 80s. Antoine has a fricking noodle arm.

Thanks for the insight Adam. Always enjoy reading your posts.

Do you think Cabrera or Storz are two way players like people sugest at LSU? I don't remember a time under PM where we really had a two way player, but idk if we really ever had a strong option for one either.

I don't count guys like Strall, etc.. that came into bat in mop up duty.

I heard Storz could be a two way player, didn't know Cabrera also pitched. I literally know nothing about baseball classes.

I used to follow some and the draft would always disappoint me. Gave it another try and was excited for the Marshall, Latz, Lange class; which kinda killed my excitement when Marshall dipped during football season.

Cabrera is the top bat in this freshman class and arguably could start out the year in the 2 hole, I like that they're trying him out from the left side because they may need another lefty but he'll be an everyday player and for that reason I would count on him to be primarily in the lineup.

Mainieri really really doesn't like using two way players (maybe he's scared of overusing them or just his philosophy) but there are rare breeds that force your hand into playing them as often as possible (Michael Aubrey, Stephen Head, Brendan McKay etc...) I think with time Nick Storz could become that type of player.

Nick Storz will get playing time quicker on the mound and that's going to be the position he'll excel at a faster rate. Out of the two Storz shows the skillset to be able to maintain both given his frame and durability.

The guy everybody here seems to be sleeping on is Nick Webre.

He's playing at Danville in the Prospect League right now and he's destroying the competition. He's hitting .360 in 26 games, with 14 stolen bases.

Don't be surprised if we end up with a lefty-righty platoon at DH with Webre and Bryce Jordan splitting time.

He has shot up the radar quite a bit. I wouldn't mind letting him get some work at 2B in the fall, what do you think?
