I think you're missing the point. No one is saying Miles shouldn't have been let go. They are simply pointing out the hypocrisy of the AD in that what wasn't good enough 3 years ago is now "great" under a new coach...simply because everyone thought so little of said new coach that they are surprised he was actually able to accomplish a degree of success the old coach was almost fired for.
In many respects you can argue the 2018 was slightly better than the 2015 season. However, you could also argue that LSU is further away from potentially reaching the SEC championship game than they were in 2015. The gap between Bama and LSU right now is pretty large and it's primarily because LSU has an ineffective offensive approach/scheme....the same issue in 2015.

If you goal as a team is to get to the CFB playoff, as it should be, then winning the SEC is irrelevant now, with the way the CFB playoff is setup.
even dating back to our last SECCG game appearance before the playoff.
