1. Under-thrown deep balls: Looking back through highlights and several deep balls were under thrown. Receivers helped him out but against elite DBs those are INTs.

2. Lack of patience in the pocket: The second he senses heat - he's gone and doesn't keep his eyes downfield as well as some.

All in all - really happy with his play thus far though...a few balls he's thrown - especially the mid-range, over the shoulder ones have been absolute beauties. Catching his receivers in stride.

I agree on your first point. I disagree on the second. He moves well in the pocket, better than most college QBs.

Yeah the passing game might have some issues in SEC play. But what's new.

Probably won't be looking deep as much against the heart of the schedule.

That would certainly be concerning. We can't have teams not fearing the deep ball.

Well I see Etling is getting better, you only see 2 things he won't be able to do vs SEC comp.

Since you mentioned "elite DB's" please list those guys, so we will know who they are:

MS ST
Syracuse
Troy
Florida
Auburn
Ole Miss
Alabama
Arkansas
Tennessee
Texas A&M

Now let me remind you "elite"

Well it will all depend. I'm sure if Canada sees our WR getting separation down the field, he's gonna call for some deep plays.

Thing is, I'm convinced we haven't seen a lot of over the middle mid range shots on purpose. I don't think we want our future opponents knowing we can do that effectively just yet. I think the first game was to show that Etling can actually throw the ball accurately and the second was to show that he can throw it deep so teems won't just load the box automatically on us to stop the run. This will allow Guice to do what he does.

I doubt we will see much difference in the State game either as our WR will be able to get separation for deep passes and the won't be able to stop Guice. I dgaf how good they think their defense is.

There's underthrown deep balls and deep balls thrown into double coverage that are caught for big plays by receivers in almost every game every weekend. Also most DBs don't have good technique so lots of PIs occur on these throws

By throwing it to Mike Evans and Amari Cooper

** and the Bama refs bailing him out with PI calls on all of the db's facing his receivers of course

There was a film clip of Canada during practice (can't remember whether spring practice or summer) yelling to the QB not to overthrow the receiver, that he would rather have it under thrown than overthrown. So maybe some of this is by design.

We have to have the only fan base that makes multiple threads complaining about our QB that has a 189.5 QB rating.

We get it. he's only completing 71% of his passes and has a paltry 12.28 YPA average. Hopefully he'll get better.

And mccarron didn't do it as much as is being alleged, especially in his last season. Manzeil's scrambling ability is what saved him.
