Me and my whole family was there m. In an RV. It was wild. Riots.,Told us to not leave parking area. Great game, we should have won. Still love the Tigers. Played a game team that day.,Stovall was a great coach., He wasn’t given the chance he deserved. Because of Bob Broadhead. The AD

We need some revenge on Nebraska after how they treated us in the Orange and Sugar Bowls.

Wasn’t Arnsbarger the coach by then?

Arnsparger was 84-86

We gave them more than they wanted until their OL depth finally wore us down. I was big time proud of the team when that game ended. They won but we took em' down a notch.

Jerry coached '80-'83.
We were ok in '80, horrible in '81, on the verge of greatness after beating Bama in '82 but then lost our next 3 games (State, Tulane, and Nebraska).
CORRECTION: we lost 3 of our last 4. Great win over FSU tucked in there. Thanks to those later down for the corretion.
'83 is what did Stovall in. Pretty good on O but bad on D. His tenure was a roller coaster. Great guy but not a good HC.
Enter Arnsparger. Coached '84-'86.
Great coach IMO. Pre-Arnsparger, success was beating rivals and getting a bowl game. Bill didn't give a flip about Bowl games but he did lead us to our first SEC title in '86 since '70. Not so sure but had Arnsparger stayed, we would have won 4 straight SEC titles. He knew the blueprint.
Oh, he never lost to Bama.

No, Arnsparger 1st year at LSU was 1984, but was hired shortly after Stovall got clipped. If I recall, they were winless in the conference, his last year.

Mack Brown was on Stovall's 82 coaching staff, for those that remember.

I was there 17 years old, great game. Best memories were Ramsay Dardar outplaying their All American Center Remington and the hot young girls in bikinis by the pool on Dec. 31 when we checked in our hotel in Miami.

I remember being pissed off anytime Nebraska was our Bowl Matchup because they seemed to ALWAYS wax LSUs arse & on National TV for all to see!

No indeed not. He was better than most of the horrible coaches that followed, but he was nowhere near as good as Arnsparger.
Stovall was here four years and his record ws 22-21-2. His best year was 8-3-1. That team did not have depth, but they had 2019 talent at the starting positions (no Burrow, of course). His last season was 4-7! Time to go!
