This is one of the earliest games about which I have some clear memories.

Same here, although I was listening to it on the radio with my parents. I just remember the last few plays, thinking we lost, then we tied, then we won. I learned a lot about clock management and how extra points are tried even though there is no time left. At the end of it, I just remember being kind of a ticked off 7 year old even though we won.

Me too…My family had just moved to BR, and this was one of the first games I remember listening to on WWL radio. It was extremely intense all game…riveting to listen. That night I became a huge LSU fan from listening to that game.

I remember sitting on the side of my bed, chewing on a towel, listening to John Ferguson , nervous as hell, I jumped up so high my mom came into the room to see if I had fallen.

What a great time, loved listening to the games on the radio. We use to get all excited when they would put a game on TV! I remember the 1970 Ole Miss game on TV when Archie played with the broken arm and Burns and Casonova were running punts back for TD's and of course the Notre Dame game, Jones to Hamilton!

Was at that game with my grandson, who was a freshman that year at LSU. It was electric!

Bert would have been on of the greatest NFL QB's of all time if not for the neck injury. Belichick called him the best pure passer he has ever seen. Pretty high praise coming from the man who had Tom Brady running the show for all those years.

I think we've found the oldest poster on TD. You must be at least 120 years old.

I laughed out loud for real especially because the exaggeration was so over the top funny. I read the quote over and I again lost it even more when I realized that wasn’t a joke you were making, just an honest observation from you. That makes it even funnier to me for some reason. Lol

I was at that game, but missed the winning TD. My wife was a nurse at BR General Hospital working 11 to 7 shift. I had to get home to watch the kids and give her the car to get to work.

One thing of note about this game. The #6 Tigers (6 - 0 going into the game) were heavily favored over the 4 - 3 Rebels. Ole Miss had been in the preseason top 20, but fell out after dropping three straight games. Had the Rant been around in those days, Cholly Mac would have caught Hell for allowing the Rebs to be in the game until the final buzzer.

FYI, here is a blurb about that game in 50 Years of College Football:

I was in what is now 412 of the SEZ. It happened right in front of me. That was when Tiger Stadium was Tiger Stadium.

There was a thread earlier on the SEC Rant, where a former Rebel DL claimed that post game they ran the old style tape over & over, timing the last 2 plays, so many times the tape caught on fire. His claim was that at no time, on all the reruns, did Bert get 2 plays off in time. He also claimed that the LSU WR ran a pick play, opening up Davis for the winning TD. Finally, he said that an officially called missed FG, on the Rebel drive right before that last play was right over the top of the goal post & should have been called good. FWIW.... I was right behind their bench & after the game winning extra point was kicked, all the Rebels were screaming & throwing their helmets into the hedges which surrounded TS at the time. Coach Vaught was frozen like a statute. For a long time.

Great video clip. I was at that game and 9 years old. I missed the play though! While everyone was standing for the play, I was sitting with my hands together and praying!
