I’ve read a lot of threads on claiming the 1908 Title. I know there is a lot of people in the know on this site. My question is - why doesn’t LSU claim it?

Seems like a no brainer to me. Do a big PR deal about it, etc…

I think it also has to do with how weak our schedule was that year. We played Jackson Barracks and Young Men’s Gymnastics Club to open the season.

Tulane pushed a narrative of LSU using pro players and LSU let the story take off and in LSU’s mind the season was tarnished which is why LSU never claimed it. LSU being weak per usual as to why they don’t claim it.

Because it is 2021(!!!) and today's generation we do not care about "claiming" championships from over 100 years ago.

Go out and earn a championship now.

Nah, not at this point (yet).

Athletic department really should have piggybacked it on with the 2019 Champions. That would have been the perfect time to officially claim it and add a flag.

To just do it randomly seems desperate.

True except that the NCAA gives us credit for a NC in 1908.
I don’t know much about what happened, but it seems to me that these young men who played on that team should be recognized. If a member of my family had played on that team, I would want it that way. You?

Yes I’d like to see it officially recognized and have a flag flying in Tiger Stadium.

But my point is you shouldn’t just do it randomly this long afterward. I think we mostly were all hoping Woody would make it official right after the 2019 celebrations were over. Perfect time IMO.

Next best opportunity should come with our next National Championship.

Wrong if we wanted to be like them we would pick a season where we finished with 2 losses

How did ULL become UL?

Their people didn’t wait for permission to claim it. And when they were told they were wrong and they couldn’t do it, they did it anyway.

And here we are 20 years later and they won.

Just claim 1908. No one can stop you. Your claim is valid by most standards. Just say that LSU won five football national championships. If enough people claim it, say it out loud, and repeat it over and over, LSU will cave and claim it.

I claim 1908. You claim 1908. Print the damn shirts, already. Who cares what the rest of the world thinks? They will catch up.

Why?
Actually 2008 was the time to go it really.
But how long should you wait to right a wrong?
The NCAA itself recognizes our 1908 team but we can’t?
It makes no sense unless we know something others do not.

LSU was not just the only to beat Auburn, we were the only team that scored on them that season.

Auburn was suppose to be the top team, after we beat them the next two games, they beat Georgia & Georgia Tech by a combined 67-0.

Why would we want to claim something that the individuals who accomplished it didn’t claim nor are the around to receive the recognition? If it’s something that was earned why wasn’t it claimed then?

Just because the Gumps have gone back and claimed a bunch of retroactive titles doesn’t make it right.

Did they “claim” NCs in 1908? Good question.
But the NCAA has gone back and named NCs since 1869. They named us NC in 1908 along with Penn. We should have just accepted the recognition from the NCAA.
