We need to acknowledge 1908. It doesn’t hurt, the school already honors the team—throw a banner up for them!

"A doubt was cast on this team because of accusations of recruiting violations from Tulane that were enough for some publications to list Auburn as the champions of the south prior to the SIAA's clearance of any wrongdoing by LSU. But clearly the LSU Tigers were the best in the south and the first truly great team in LSU football annals. Many years later, in awarding retroactive national titles to colleges, the 1908 Tigers were named co-national champions with Pennsylvania by the National Championship Foundation."
One chapter in the book I may finish after I retire will be called "Ambushed at the Grunewald," Tulane in 1905 accused LSU of playing 3 players under assumed names and calling them ringers.
The truth is all three players played using their real names and all three were from Michigan. The Smith brothers are two of those players, the third was a sub and third teamer.
I had the Liberian of the town the two Smith brothers are from take a picture of their graves to show both are burred under the same name they played under.
The other case is the player from 1907 who was allegeable to play in 1907 as he sit out a year before coming to LSU, but for some reason he played under his fathers name.
Tulane at the same time was recruiting all over the South for players, but wanted LSU only to recruit, now wait for it: Baton Rouge only for players.
There is a lot more to the story and when the two sides meet at the Gurnewald, Tulane had their inside press man there to smash LSU with new charges, which hit the head lines the next day.
This meeting was set up to bring peace between the two school and to arrange a meeting between the two schools on the field, Tulane has set up an ambush.
The bad blood would not heal ever between the two schools.
Tulane quit the SIAA after the 1905 season and became an independent and would not rejoin the SIAA until 1911. Tulane also played two banded players in 1908 and one was a twice banded player.
The new charges amount to LSU went to Pennsylvania and recruited players.
Friendly remind in 1900's if you did not letter on the team you played for you could transfer and are eligible right away. In 1908 many teams played transfers, Texas A&M played a Carlisle player that lettered the year before.
One of the key letters used against LSU is from the best friend of Wingard and is playing at Michigan which is the third team he played for in close to 9 years. I have read the letters of those making charges there is nothing there and when you start looking into college football in 1908, all the teams have large question marks.
Relatives and players of one person play the largest role of the charges and that all relates to one school Michigan.

We've won 3 NCs in the last 17 years, and played for another.
I was going great until I got to that last part.

I think we should claim it as a co-championship.

2003 was not a “co-national championship”.
CFB recognized LSU, the BCS champion, as THE national champion.
USC got a trophy granted to them by the AP.

We don't need to tack on another from over a century ago just to goose our numbers.
It's not a question upping numbers. The 08 team has been honored in Tiger Stadium and recognized as one of the greatest or maybe the greatest ever. For many years the LSU war cry was "1908 and Next Year". Next Year was here in 2019.
The '08 team should get the recognition they earned. As should the 2019 team, I don't want some asshat in 2026 saying the game was different in 2019. The game is different every year.

LSU is generous, LSU wanted to give it to another school. Have I answered your question? The real question I want to know where can I buy some freakin chicken and toilet paper and bottles of water. Ppl buying every little thing in the stores now a days, every store empty every where. It's mid March 2020 and every store is literally cleaned out. But u wanna know what happening hundred years ago. Go ask the LSU president. Find out for yourself

Bama would have zero if they didn’t claim titles due to this. I

Was thinking of bumping this thread yesterday..
With a slow off-season, it's time to get this movement in motion.
It's deserved and legit.
