If the NCAA recognizes our title that year why would we not? I’m really curious as to the real reason LSU doesn’t recognize it. Is there a specific reason?

Looks like it is happening!

I wonder how we could petition to get it recognized. If enough people make some noise, they may pay attention.

I think before each home game, someone needs to sneak a purple or gold flag with "1908" on it and attach it to the stadium somewhere near the other flags and where everyone would see it. They'll surely take it down each time but if it happens enough times, people are going to start asking in greater numbers. Then LSU will be forced to either recognize it or give us an explanation why they don't.

Let's make it happen, ranters!

per LSUSports.net:

"A doubt was cast on this team because of accusations of recruiting violations from Tulane that were enough for some publications to list Auburn as the champions of the south prior to the SIAA's clearance of any wrongdoing by LSU. But clearly the LSU Tigers were the best in the south and the first truly great team in LSU football annals. Many years later, in awarding retroactive national titles to colleges, the 1908 Tigers were named co-national champions with Pennsylvania by the National Championship Foundation."

So it's because of fricking Tulane, then. frick Tulane! Glad to know we were cleared of the recruiting violations that they accused us of. So what if we were named co-national champions with Pennsylvania; we still recognize the 2003 title and we were co-champions with USC that year.

I say raise the flag and print the shirts.

I personally don't care. It was 111 years ago - the game was completely different.

I'm fine with 1958, of course, but we don't need to desperately chase numbers here. We've won 3 NCs in the last 17 years, and played for another.

We don't need to tack on another from over a century ago just to goose our numbers.

Honestly, when things like this keep happening. It needs to be a concerted effort by fans to keep making threads about it, emailing and writing letters to the AD, opinion pieces in newspapers, the flag idea like you mentioned, t-shirts, social media, a website, etc. Basically, a political campaign.

Nah. LSU got the trophy. NCAA recognizes LSU as champion that year.

2004 Auburn has a much stronger case than 2003 USC.

A bunch of butthurt left coast writers don’t get to decide when there’s a formal system in place. Their input was part of the formula used to determine the top 2 teams, and their team still didn’t make it.

USC claiming 2003 (or anyone claiming it on their behalf) is just being ridiculous.

I will say that the 4-team playoff should have been implemented after the 2004 season when an undefeated SEC team didn’t even get to play for the title.
