Patterson gets lost in the shuffle, but I love some JP for 3.
He's Captain consistent. Can hit the threes pretty consistently, plays tough defense for his size and I've been saying for a long time, is a solid PG. He's never going to create much offensively but when he;s running the show offensively we dont simply turn the ball over like we do much more with guys who create more. Patterson is very careful with the basketball.

Will make the drive again from Lafayette. We actually booked the NY trip and will be there also.
I fully anticipate Blakeney to again lead the team in points. He and Sampson look great even on missed baskets.
Biggest hope for improvement is at the free throw line. Have to get better in that department to have a chance in the SEC. Geaux tigers!

quote:I agree but what I also saw was that his teammates didn't seem to have much confidence throwing him the ball in the low post. Don't know why because he showed pretty good decision making and a nice touch. If we are going to have an inside/out game they are going to have to start giving him the ball more.
vElbert was probably the thing that made me feel best of all the positives of the McNeese game. I thought he looked very good but he has to stop fouling. I just rewatched the game and really liked what I saw from him offensively and rebounding.

Elbert is one of those guys you just dont want putting the ball on the floor. However, I think we definitely need to get him work in the low post when he's facing up against guys he's got half a foot on like he did vs. McNeese and will against Kennesaw St. I mean Kennesaw State's center is 6'6 225. At 7'1 290 he should be putting it in from 1-3 feet out like child's play.
I'd like to note ER III hitting his FTs too...something some guys will have to work on this year. If our 7'1 center can hit FTs, nobody else has an excuse.

Patterson is not now nor will he ever be a point guard. A point guard is just not a guard that doesn't have turnovers. It is a guard who makes his teammates better by driving and getting them an open shot. It is someone who can penetrate the lane, who can make good entry passes to teammates down low, who looks for the pass first and the shot second.
If you recognize Patterson in any of that let me know. He is a set up shooting guard. He is the guy that gets the passes not who creates them.

If you didnt pay attention in the game on Friday or last season at all Patterson DOES run the offense at times. He has a VERY good assist to turnover ratio too. He just isnt going to create as much as Quarterman or Simmons. On the flipside he isnt going to turn it over as mcuh either.
Just because he's a good spot up shooter doesnt mean he cant run the point. Which he did on Friday night for more than a handful of possessions and did last season quite a bit, especially when Gray got put on the bench more often than not.
This crusade some of you have out against Patterson not being a PG at all is absolutely silly. He 100% runs the point for us at times.

JP is a good compliment to this team. He's more of a SG than PG but I see what you mean. He's more than capable of running point if need be. Especially with guys like hornsby and tone who can create.

Yea.
I'd rather have Patterson off guard, but he certainly ran point at times on Friday.
I also think it's silly to try and argue positions. There are two positions in my book; on court and off court. Basketball as a whole is becoming less and less hampered by positions and more about 5 players playing 5 players.

I'm not arguing he creates like some other guys do on this team. I'm stating facts, and a fact is he runs the point for us on occasion.
Here's more facts:
- Patterson was #1 on the team in AST:TO ratio last season
- Patterson was #3 on the team in assists last season playing just 24 minutes a game
- Patterson in game 1 of this year had 3 assists to just 1 turnover, the same as Quarterman
Patterson is what he is. A very smart ball handler who wont create as much as some other guys we have but ALSO wont turn it over like those same guys will. He also obviously is a good spot up shooter.
Patterson is what I call a guy who gets "quiet assists". He makes great perimeter passes to guys with open looks.

I don't really think that's the definition of a PG to be honest.

quote:No it is actually the definition of Ben Simmons and that is why he is great and people say he is a point guard in a 6'10" body.

Yes, nobody is saying Patterson creates AS MUCH as Simmons or Quarterman. What we are saying is he still runs the point for us at times and does a good job. Dont know why you cant admit that.
Once again:
#1 on the team last year in AST:TO ratio
Had 3 assists and 1 turnover on Friday night

I'd like to see Elbert catch entry passes, take one dribble, and go into his post move without hesitation. I'm glad we made a point to go to him several times last Friday. Hope we do it a little more tonight.

Alright I'm sucking it up and driving home and back to br for the game. I can't miss watching Ben Simmons play basketball.

SOS great work, much appreciated as always. I must say, thank fricking god that basketball started when it did. Great way to cope with what's going on with our football team. It's feels like finding out your SO cheated on you, but you go out and slay her best friend the next night.
