Anyone that was not there will never understand…and it wasn’t just big plays when the crowed came to life…it was the ENTIRE game…no one sat down except between quarters and halftime…the crowd never let up…I’ve been to many games since then and none have come close to that game…

100% accurate! I remember the fans outside USC bus and Mike . 100s of fans shaking the bus yelling Tiger Bait as loud as they could as the Trojans exited their bus. It literally never let up!!

I was at that game and yes was one of the greatest games ever in Tiger Stadium for sure! . But USC vs LSU 1979 was the greatest game I hv personally seen in Tiger Stadium to this day and I hv been to most of what fans feel were the best.

I missed the ‘97 UF game but watched it. I did see 2007 UF, SC ‘79 and many many others. There were so many raucous games between Ole Miss and Tulane where the stadium was insane. For the money USC 1979 is far and away the most intense and loudest game for 4 quarters that I have ever experienced. It was like the last drive of the UF game for 4 quarters. That’s the best way I can describe it.

That’s the one for me too because of what was at stake. UGA was the favorite and the popular pick to challenge for the natty, we’re the upstart trying to breakthrough for the first time in nearly half a decade, they go up and down the field all game but we keep holding them in the red zone, we finally take the lead and they hit us with the big play screen to go on top but the crowd defiantly gets louder, we get the big kickoff return from Henderson then the great TD pass to Green and incredible INT from Webster to win it. That game changed the course of LSU football and sent us on our way to the first modern NCAA championship. That’s the one.

I talk to my son often about this game because he is too young to remember. Such a memorable game.

I called Bodog at the half of that game. We were trailing. I had been drinking heavily. I had $5500 in my account. Told them I wanted to bet it all on LSU 2nd H.
Those cheeky bastids made my take LSU -5.5, -6, and -6.5 in the second half. Didn’t matter though. All 3 hit

Good one but LSU - FL in ‘97 was better imo

No way. That was a fun upset by a team that went nowhere.

This was a titanic clash, and every one of us leaving the stadium knew we were winning the Natty. Maybe not in the exact way we did it but…

I get what you’re saying but Florida was a 4 loss team in 07. By comparison we were a 3 loss team in 97 so framing it in that way is a bit of a double standard. Great game though, I just think it’s a little glamorized because it was Miles best game and people who really believed in him kind of romanticize it and hold it up there for that reason. Not saying you’re a Miles guy but the games aura has been elevated because of the fans who came up during that era.

This is pretty disingenuous.

Florida was the defending national champion, had the shoe in favorite for the Heisman in Tebow at quarterback, and was still ranked in the top 10 for this game despite losing the week before.

Hell, losing that game to Auburn only raised the stakes because Florida’s chance to defend their title was absolutely on the line, and Tebow and the entire team played that way.

Meyer had UF as one of if not the premier program in the country, we were playing a game ranked #1 for the first time in nearly 50 years and the night atmosphere was incredible.

I’m actually surprised at how many people seem to be minimizing how insane that game was.

I was at UGA in 03 and many of the other games being talked about and we can all have our own personal favorites but to pretend UF 07 isn’t a shoe in as one of the best games ever played in Tiger Stadium is nonsense.

they didn’t have 4 losses at the time that game happened though.

they had 1 loss, were in the top 10, and that game absolutely had National title implications.

going in to the game, it was by far the biggest game in the country.
Gameday was there, it was highest rated game of the season, and the crowd absolutely reflected that.

the. the game itself was nothing short of amazing as a game. and throw in the USC score being announced and you get an all-time great Death Valley atmosphere.

Florida 97 was the defending champ as well and Tebow wasn’t a returning starter in 07, it was the 6th start of his career when we played em. And if our coaches don’t blow the Auburn game we’re undefeated going into the 97 game vs the #1 team in the country in Florida.

So??

He was easily the leader for the Heisman and the entire country was obsessed with Tebow-mania.

Not sure what him not being a returning starter has to do with the hype surrounding that game.

If anything the fact that they won the NC with Leak at QB and now had the best QB in the country replacing him only made Florida more imposing and more of a media darling.

I was in Talladega AL for the fall NASCAR race. A group of us from LA were camping on Talladega blvd and that Saturday night the blvd was rocking, but us LSU fans were all camped around a TV holding our breath. I still remember the collective yells all around when LSU pulled that one out. When the game was over, the LSU fans partied a little harder that night.
