Used as a symbol, in the modern age of college football, to represent those that step up and do what their team asks of them, just as JK has done his whole career at LSU.

#18 has failed us. It's time for something fresh.

I would be surprised if BK doesn’t find some way of honoring what Kirklin did.

I wouldn’t miss the #18 tradition, but I don’t think I’d just replace it with 13 either.

Bring back retired numbers. The standard should be sacrifice. I’m all for honoring the legends in a permanent fashion, but saying that that person is the BEST that will EVER wear that number is outdated, IMO.

I’d give Bech 18 next year. He exemplifies everything we want out of the number. It’s not the numbers that have been the problem. It’s who Ed was selecting to wear them.

Number 9 should be retired also. In fact, the governor needs to sign a bill preventing any football player for a team in this state from ever wearing 9 again. Between Burrow and Brees that number can never be topped by another player.

Why? Because a senior who had absolutely nothing to lose played in a meaningless bonus bowl game?

Y’all need to stop acting like the kid did some kind of miracle work.

Or just say "thank you for your service," and move on. We don't need to enshrine this debacle.

We lost, by 22, to an average big 12 team, in the fricking Texas Bowl.

So glad this season is over and we don't ever have to think about it again.

I'm so sick of people saying this. Was it meaningless to Kirklin? Are these games meaningless to the players that may never play another down of football? They should be celebrated for the players honoring their commitments and closing out their careers.

You're a fricking idiot if you really think it means nothing. You've obviously never really worked hard for anything.

You don't know a damn thing about me.

If you want to disagree with what I said or even call me a "fricking idiot," fine. I work my arse off for myself and my family and don't earn a lot in return so you can kiss my arse. Say I don't work hard to my face, Dick.

I never said it meant nothing. I just said we don't need to enshrine this game and the circumstances around it. I'm grateful for everyone that played, Jontre included.

Thank you, Tigers.

.....and that's all we need. Moving on.

You seem stable. When you're out of your feelings maybe you can act like a functioning adult.

It’s a convenient example of the type of attitude I assume BK will want in the program.

I don’t like the whole number passing on thing. But I will say recognizing players like Jontre is a good thing. It signifies resiliency and a can-do attitude that will carry this young man for the rest of his life. Hopefully, he has his degree and will be able to leverage it in his future endeavors.

Jontre is a great example of character and leadership.

For those that keep calling this a meaningless game, you are staying the exact opposite of what an athlete thinks.
I have never competed at anything “meaningless” in my life. I don’t care if it was marbles or spit contests. I always played to win. People on here that say that any game is meaningless are not competitors.

A competitor never wants to lose.
A competitor always wants to play.
A competitor never wants to let their teammates down.
A competitor never wants to let himself down.
There are no meaningless games.
There are no meaningless jobs.
Life is not meaningless.

I can assure you that every athlete that was on that field last night didn’t think that game was meaningless.

That’s what these selfish pussy arse fans refuse to see. Guys like Kirkland will cherish and remember this “meaningless bowl game” for the rest of his life.

I like the #18 tradition, O was just as bad at selecting team leaders for it as he was at selecting support staff.

I hope BK keeps it going even if it isn’t the most popular on here
